1. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

  • USA, UK, 2001.
  • Fantasy, adventure, family movie.
  • Duration: 152 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7, 6.

A little orphan named Harry Potter is nothing more than a burden to his malevolent cousins Petunia and Vernon Dursley. But on his eleventh birthday, the boy learns that he is a wizard. Now Harry has to become a student of the Hogwarts school of magic, find friends and enemies, and also find himself in the center of a maelstrom of events that are somehow connected with the mysterious philosopher's stone.

To find children for the role of Harry Potter and his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, the filmmakers announced an open casting. Little Emma came to audition on the advice of her teacher. The girl at that time was only nine years old, and before she played only in the school drama club.

Emma Watson not only loved the Harry Potter books - the actress knew them almost by heart and drove the entire film crew crazy when she moved her lips, repeating lines after her comrades on the set Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint.

Harry Potter was a unique experience for Emma: not every actor has to play the same character for 10 years growing up with him. During this time, Emma Watson "changed" the franchise only once, starring in the television adaptation of Noel Streetfield's novel "Ballet Shoes."

Be that as it may, the role of Hermione not only at one moment turned the life of Emma Watson upside down, turning an unknown girl into the highest paid young actress, but also forever remained in the hearts of those who love Rowling's universe with all their hearts.

And how can you forget that juicy slap in the face of Draco Malfoy in Prisoner of Azkaban and touching awkward dance with Harry to Nick Cave's song O Children in the first part of Deathly Hallows?

2. It's good to be quiet

  • USA, 2012.
  • Drama, melodrama.
  • Duration: 102 minutes.
  • IMDb: 8, 0.

The film, directed by Stephen Chbosky and based on his novel of the same name, tells the story of a shy high school student, Charlie (Logan Lerman). After the loss of loved ones - beloved aunt and best friend - the boy suffers from depression and guilt. But life gets better when Charlie meets Patrick (Ezra Miller) and his half-sister Sam (Emma Watson). Gradually he grows up and re-learns to communicate and love.

After filming "Harry Potter", Emma Watson announced her temporary retirement from the profession due to the desire to devote time to travel and self-education. But the actress liked Stephen Chbosky's script so much that she changed her mind and plunged headlong into preparing for a new role.

So "It's Good to Be Quiet" became Emma's first "adult" project. The actress admitted that at the very beginning of filming she still felt a particle of Hermione inside. But still, this did not prevent her from playing a completely different character - a rebellious high school student with a problematic past.

Especially for this role, Emma made a short haircut - under the contract during the filming in the Potterian she had no right to do this - and learned to speak with an American accent.

3. Elite society

  • USA, UK, Japan, Germany, France, 2013.
  • Crime drama.

Very soon this is not enough for her, and then Rebecca, in the company of Mark and several girls - Nikki, Sam and Chloe - begins to rummage around the houses of Hollywood stars. Grief-criminals do not think that they can be caught, and at some point the situation gets out of control.

In Sofia Coppola's film, the main screen "clever" Emma Watson starred in the role of immoral and narrow-minded girl Nikki, whose ultimate dream is to be behind bars with Lindsay Lohan.

Britney Spears' songs and reality shows such as "Hollywood Hills" and "The Kardashian Family" helped Emma better understand this character. In addition, the actress started How Emma Watson used Tumblr to get in character for ‘The Bling Ring’ a blog on Tumblr and ran it on behalf of her character (unfortunately, it is not available now).

The film received restrained and even negative reviews from critics: it was talked about as one of the weakest in Sofia Coppola's career.

4. Noah

  • USA, 2014.
  • Peplum, fantasy, drama, disaster film.
  • Duration: 138 minutes.
  • IMDb: 5, 8.

A meditation film directed by Darren Aronofsky tells the biblical story of the Flood in its own way. One day the righteous Noah (Russell Crowe) comes to an apocalyptic vision: God wants to send a flood to Earth and destroy humanity as a punishment for sins. And then Noah builds a huge ship to protect his family and the innocent creatures of God from the wrath of the Creator.

According to Aronofsky, the biblical story can be interpreted not only in a religious, but also in a philosophical and even acutely social sense. On the way to the goal, Noah will have to face not only aggression and misunderstanding of people, but also his own fears.

Emma Watson played the orphan Ilu, who is found and rescued by the protagonist's family as a child. Ila falls in love with Shim, Noah's eldest son. But they cannot have children due to the fact that Ila was severely wounded in the stomach and therefore infertile. This character was not in the biblical myth - he was added for a more interesting adaptation of the story.

Dakota Fanning and Saoirse Ronan, who could not take part in the project due to their employment, were also considered for the role of Eli.

Emma Watson and David Thewlis have already met on the set - in the Harry Potter series of films, the actor embodied the image of Professor Lupine.

6. Colony of Dignidad

  • Germany, Luxembourg, France, 2015.
  • Romantic film, historical thriller.

  • IMDb: 7, 1.

The plot of the film is based on a true story about a young couple - Lena (Emma Watson) and Daniel (Daniel Brühl) - who arrives in Chile in the midst of the 1973 military coup. Daniel is kidnapped by the secret police, and Lena is sent on his trail to a closed area in the south of the country - a certain colony "Dignidad".

Emma Watson became interested in this role because she had long wanted to play a strong female character who, contrary to the traditional archetype of a girl in trouble, saves her lover.

7. Sphere

  • USA, UAE, 2017.
  • Technotriller.
  • Duration: 110 minutes.
  • IMDb: 5, 3.

She successfully climbs the career ladder and becomes more and more close to her boss Eamon Bailey (Tom Hanks), who invites her to take part in an experiment on the verge of morality and ethics. Soon, May will have to learn a frightening truth about the company.

The role of May Holland could have been played by Alicia Vikander, but she chose to star in the action movie Jason Bourne. "Sphere" was waiting for a failure - critics spoke badly about the tape, and Emma Watson even received a nomination for "Golden Raspberry" for the worst female role.

But the girl wants something more than being the wife of an arrogant and ignorant braggart.

One day, on the way to the fair, her father is lost in the middle of the forest and finds himself in the castle of the monster. Belle goes in search of Maurice and soon finds him locked in a dungeon. The monster agrees to let the old man go, but only if Belle stays in the castle instead of her father.

Emma Watson could have worked with Walt Disney Pictures before: the studio offered her the lead role in a remake of Cinderella. But then the actress refused, because she did not feel anything to do with this character.

Nevertheless, Emma immediately agreed to play Belle, who is just very similar to herself: the actress, like her character, is obsessed with reading, appreciates freedom and has an independent character. For this role, Emma Watson even turned down an offer to play in La La Land.
