What you need to know before removing watermarks
Any image on the Internet has an author - and it doesn't matter if it has watermarks on it or not. Copyright does not need to be proven, it arises at the time the image is created. And publishing on the Web does not change anything: only the creator and those to whom he has allowed it can freely use a photo or drawing. The rest cannot download, modify and publish the image - this is a violation of the law.
Sometimes it is allowed to display an image without the consent of the author (but with the mention of his name) for informational, scientific, educational or cultural purposes. For example, a picture can be used in a scientific article or in a lecture about the author's work. However, in most cases, the creator may still have questions for you.
The author can dispose of his creation as he pleases. For example, to allow it to be used by everyone, or vice versa, to protect it by any available means. Including watermarking. And it is forbidden to remove them, like any other copyright information, from the image. To get an image without watermarks, buy it from the author or on a photo bank. Or you can just agree with the creator about the use of his work on a non-commercial basis. For this, one way or another, you need to get permission.
But it happens that the watermark is in the picture, which you can use legally and for free. Let's say a few years ago they uploaded a photo to a site that automatically puts watermarks, and erased the original. And now you have decided to print the image into your family photo album and want to remove all tags from it. There are several working methods for this case.
How to remove a watermark from a photo
1. How to remove a watermark from a photo in Photoshop on any computer
The possibilities of the popular editor are truly endless and even allow you to remove watermarks in just a few clicks. If Photoshop is installed on your computer, consider that half the battle is already done.
Open the desired photo in the program and select the "Magic Wand" tool through the toolbar or by pressing the W key.
Select all the elements of the watermark by alternately clicking on each and holding the Shift key.
Go to Selection → Modify → Expand, set the value to 2-3 pixels, and click OK.
Go to Edit → Fill … or press Shitf + F5. Select the option "Based on content", uncheck the option "Color adaptation" and click "OK".
After a second, the watermark will disappear. All that remains is to save the already cleaned image through the menu "Export" → "Export as …".
2. How to remove watermark from photos in Pixelmator on Mac
The popular graphics editor for macOS, which is positioned as a replacement for Photoshop, also has tools for removing watermarks in its arsenal. Pixelmator can do it faster and in some cases even better.
Open the desired image and select the Repair tool.
Paint over the area with the stamp you want to remove. Repeat this step for each item if there are more than one.
Save the photo without a watermark in the desired format via the File → Export menu.
3. How to remove a watermark from a photo in Photoshop Fix on a smartphone
If you don't have a computer at hand, you can get by with Adobe's Photoshop Fix mobile application, which is just intended for retouching and similar things. The result is not perfect, but very decent.
Launch the program and log in with your Adobe account or via social media. Click the plus icon and add the photo you want. Click on the "Recovery" tab.
Select the Spot Healing tool and select the watermarked area with your finger. Click the checkmark in the corner to confirm the changes.
Tap on the "Share" button and select the option you want. For example, “Save to Camera Roll”.

4. How to remove a watermark from a photo online
If you wish, you can not install anything on your computer or smartphone at all and remove the watermark right in your browser using a simple free service from Apowersoft. He copes with complex stamps imperfectly, but quite tolerably and in just a couple of clicks.
Go to the service, click Remove Watermark from Image and select a photo. By the way, you can upload multiple files at once.
Select the watermarked area and click Erase. You can leave the original parameter or select ai and compare the results.
After a few seconds, the service will process the image and offer to download it. Click on the button for this.
This is what the finished result looks like.
