How to bury drops: general rules

Before you put the medicine in your nose, eyes or ears, you need to do the following:

  1. Check that the drug can still be used. Many people have the habit of throwing leftover drugs into the first aid kit, so that later on, if necessary, get and use. If this is your case and you got the drops from your home box, check if the medicine has expired and if it has deteriorated: even if it is still far from the end of the term, due to improper storage, the medicines may become unusable. If the drops have changed color, become cloudy, or a sediment has formed in them, it is better to buy a new product at the pharmacy.
  2. Clear nose, ears and eyes of discharge. Blow your nose, if possible, remove the mucus with an aspirator. Gently clean your ears with a cotton swab (not a stick!). Collect the discharge from the eyes with a cotton pad, moving from the outer corner to the inner corner. Use a separate cotton ball for each ear and eye.
  3. Warm up the drops. This is especially important if you are going to drip medicine to a child: cold medicine solutions are unpleasant to feel in the ear or nose. To heat the medicine, it is enough to hold the bottle with the medicine in your hand a little. Do not put anything in the microwave or on top of the battery.
  4. Wash your hands before using the medicine.

How to apply nose drops

This is the simplest manipulation, but many people do it wrong. There is no need to throw your head back and inject the medicine: this way the drops will fall into the throat and will not work in the nasal cavity.

To properly drip into the nose, you need to lie down or at least tilt your head to one side, on the back of the chair.

Drops must be instilled into the nostril that is at the bottom so that the medicine is on the outer wall of the nose.

Inject the medicine and press down on the wing of the nose to disperse the drops and enter the sinuses. Then turn your head and repeat the same on the other side.

How to apply eye drops

It is difficult to drip into the eyes, because usually people react nervously to any objects near the eye. An exception is contact lens wearers.

If you instill medicine in someone's eyes, you need to tilt the patient's head back slightly, then pull the lower eyelid (not too much so that it is not unpleasant), ask to look up and send the drops into the crease between the eye and the eyelid. For convenience, the hand with the pipette can be placed directly on the person's forehead.

Sometimes the procedure is easier to carry out on your own, in front of a mirror. Then you need to try not to tilt your head forward, but otherwise act the same way: pull back the lower eyelid and send the drops to their destination.

How to put drops in the ear

The person to whom the medicine will be instilled should lie or sit so that the head is turned to one side and the sore ear is on top.

The auricle should be slightly pulled up and back, straightening the path to the ear canal.

You need to drip the medicine so that the drops flow down the outer wall of the ear, and then press the tragus to distribute the drug.

The ear must be closed with a cotton swab and remain in the same position for several minutes. Then, if necessary, repeat the procedure with the other ear.
