Turbo mode, built-in ad blocker, cryptocurrency wallet and more.
1. Saving traffic
The Opera Turbo function has been present in the browser for a very long time and is its trademark. When activated, loaded data on web pages is compressed on Opera's servers, which saves bandwidth. This is useful for mobile Internet users or those who simply have a low connection speed.
To enable Turbo mode, go to the browser settings (Opera logo → "Settings"). Then click on the radio button next to "Save traffic". And if you click on the item itself, you will see statistics - how much data was saved. Here you can select the image quality (high, medium or low) or disable them altogether.
2. Blocking ads
It is not bad that your traffic is consumed by a variety of advertisements that are overflowing with sites. Fortunately, the browser can deal with it too.
Open Opera → Settings → Ad Blocking and make sure you have this option enabled. By clicking on this item, you can see how many banners were blocked while surfing the Internet.
It's especially nice that in addition to advertising, Opera is also able to block annoying cookie notifications. To do this, you need to activate the appropriate switch in the settings and tick the box "Automatically accept dialog boxes …". And that's all, sites will no longer pester you with the "We are asking for permission to use your data."
3. Saved pages
A useful feature for those who want to read some article from the Internet where there is no connection or it is unstable - for example, on an airplane or subway. Tap the ellipsis in the upper right corner, tap Saved Pages, and the information will be loaded so you can read it later. A kind of built-in Pocket right in the browser.
You can view articles through the "Saved Pages" item in the Opera menu at the bottom right.
4. Customization of the design
Opera mobile has three built-in themes, and you can choose which one you like best. The first one is light, the second is dark, the third is white with red shades for lovers of classic design. Themes can be changed via Opera → Settings → Appearance.
In addition, the browser also has a night mode for dimly lit rooms. Turning it on automatically activates the dark theme and dims the screen. However, so far Opera has not learned how to darken the content on the web pages themselves, like the same Chrome. But he knows how to change the color temperature of the screen.
5. Tablet mode
By default, in Opera, tabs are hidden behind a button on the toolbar. Click on it, and you can flip through the sites you open. This is convenient on smartphones with a small screen, but it gets in the way on large displays, because you have to spend one extra touch to switch to tab switching mode.
However, in the design parameters of Opera there is a special item that will make the browser a little more similar to the desktop version. Click Opera → Settings → Appearance and in the Application View section select the Tablet mode. Now the tabs will move to the bar at the top of the browser, and you can switch between them with one click.
6. Built-in translator
Opera users don't need to have Google's official Translate app installed on their Android. The translator is built-in here. To use it, open any page in an unfamiliar language and select "Translate" from the menu at the top right.
Opera translates pages into the default language. It can be changed if necessary.
7. Search for images
For those who often look for similar pictures, Opera has a special function in the context menu. Found an image, but the quality is lame? Press on the picture and hold your finger until the menu appears. In it, select "Search this image in Google". And you're done, you can view the search results.
8. Cryptocurrency wallet
The built-in cryptocurrency wallet allows you to make payments directly through the browser without installing any additional applications. Opera supports work with the Ethereum currency.
You can access your wallet by clicking on the browser logo at the bottom right and selecting the Crypto Wallet item. This feature is only available in the Android version of Opera.
