What you may need

  • Paper towels;
  • spoon or unnecessary plastic card;
  • medical or ammonia;
  • stain remover or liquid detergent;
  • brush with soft bristles;
  • sponge;
  • oxygen bleach;
  • dishwashing liquid.

How to remove mustard stains from clothes

  1. First, scrape off any excess seasoning from the fabric. It is convenient to do this with a spoon or a plastic card. Try to carefully peel off the mustard so that it does not smear and soak deeper into the fibers.
  2. Dampen a paper towel or rag with water and blot the stained area. This will not remove it, but will make the process easier.
  3. Use a sponge to dab some rubbing alcohol or ammonia on the stain, then rinse well under the tap.
  4. If there are marks, use an enzyme-based stain remover or liquid detergent. Rub lightly with your fingers or a soft bristled brush to penetrate deeper into the fabric and leave for at least 15 minutes. Then wash the item as usual.
  5. If that still doesn't work, dilute the oxygen bleach in the water following the instructions on the package. Soak the item for 4 hours, preferably overnight. After soaking, wash as usual.

How to get mustard stains off carpets

  1. Remove any remaining seasoning from the carpet as soon as possible. If the stain is already dry, drip some fresh mustard onto it. It sounds illogical, but this will prevent it from blurring on contact with water and, in general, will speed up elimination.
  2. Dissolve a tablespoon of dish soap in two glasses of warm water. Soak a rag in the solution and start scrubbing the stain.
  3. Dry the carpet periodically with a paper towel and re-add water and detergent. Continue until the stain is gone.
  4. Soak another rag in clean water and scrub the spot to remove any remaining detergent. Let the carpet dry naturally.
  5. If the stain persists, dilute the oxygen bleach in water and apply it to the carpet with a soft brush. Let sit for at least an hour and then blot with a clean, damp cloth. Let the carpet dry and vacuum.

How to remove mustard stains from upholstery

Use the same tools and techniques as for carpets. Try not to wet the fabric too much and dry it frequently with a paper towel in the process. Once you've removed the stain, let the upholstery dry naturally, away from sunlight and heat sources.
