How to choose a seat

It all depends on the amount of free space and the availability of communications. Usually the washer is installed in the bathroom. If you do not turn around there, the best option would be the kitchen. But you can attach a typewriter even in the corridor. True, in this case you will have to tinker with the connection of water and sewage.

Another point to pay attention to is the floors. They must be firm and even. It is best if they have a concrete base. Wooden is allowed with rubber pads and proper installation.

Well, don't forget the power outlet. It is desirable that the plug of the machine reach it without extension cords.

How to install a washing machine

What is needed

  • Wrench.
  • Building level.
  • Rubber pads or anti-vibration mat if the floors are wooden.

What to do

  1. Unpack the box, take out the instructions, the inlet hose and the key from the drum.
  2. Using a wrench, unscrew the transit bolts located on the rear wall (usually there are 4). Save them in case you move.
  3. Close the bolt holes with special plugs.
  4. Open the door and check that the drum moves freely by shaking it by hand.
  5. Place the washing machine in the chosen place so that there is at least 2 cm to the walls and furniture.
  6. If the floors are wooden, place rubber pads or an anti-vibration mat under the feet.
  7. While unscrewing the legs, adjust their height so that the washing machine is level and only wobbles when you press on the corners.
  8. Place a building level on the machine and check that it is installed correctly.
  9. Fix the adjusted height of the legs with locknuts.

How to connect the washing machine to the water supply through a ready-made tap

This is the simplest and most correct option. If the repairs were done recently, then at the stage of laying communications, they probably provided for a separate line for the washing machine. As a rule, a valve is immediately installed on the pipe and simply left closed.

If that's the case, you're in luck. Connect the inlet hose from the washing machine to the tap and tighten the nut. Turn on the water by turning on the tap and make sure there is no leakage.

How to connect a washing machine to the water supply through a tee

The most common method of connection, which is used if there is no ready-made outlet, and you do not want to make a tie-in into the water supply system. The essence of the method is to install a tee on the supply line of any device and power the device and the machine from it.

As a connection point, you can use the cold water supply to the sink, toilet cistern or sink in the kitchen. After installing the tee, all that remains is to connect the appliance and the washing machine inlet hose.

What is needed

  • Tee with a tap for a washing machine.
  • Fum tape or tow with sealing paste.
  • Adjustable wrench, pipe wrench, or wrench in the correct size.
  • An extension of a suitable diameter if the outlet is recessed into the wall.

What to do

  1. Identify a cold water pipe.
  2. Remove from it the flexible liner that goes to the device.
  3. Try on the tee by screwing it on the thread and remembering the number of revolutions so that the valve is in the desired position.
  4. Seal the threads with fum tape, winding several turns along the entire length of the thread in the direction of the tee. If using tow, detach a small bunch and also wind along the entire length of the thread as you twist the tee. Lubricate the tow with sealing paste.
  5. Screw the tee onto the thread, making such a number of turns so that the valve is in the desired position.
  6. Install the flexible hose of the device on the tee. Replace the gasket with a new one if necessary.
  7. Screw the inlet hose from the washing machine onto the tap of the tee by hand.
  8. Open the water and check for leaks.

How to connect the washing machine to the water supply through the bathroom faucet

Another popular method that comes to the rescue when the pipes are in hard-to-reach places. Instead of trying to get to them, use a dedicated 3-way valve and extension cord. They are installed on the mixer taps, and the mixer itself is connected directly to them.

The result is a mixer that works independently and an additional outlet for the washing machine that can be shut off if necessary.

What is needed

  • Three-way tap for a washing machine with an extension (compensator) included.
  • Gaskets (if not included).
  • Adjustable wrench, pipe wrench, or wrench of the correct size.

What to do

  1. Turn off the water and remove the mixer by unscrewing its nuts with a wrench.
  2. Install the gaskets on the tap and extension.
  3. Screw on the tap by hand on the cold water outlet (usually on the right), and the extension cord on the hot water outlet (usually on the left).
  4. Tighten the nuts with a wrench.
  5. Thread the washer hose onto the free tap outlet and hand tighten.
  6. Turn on the water by opening the emergency tap.
  7. Open the installed tap and check all connections for leaks.

How to make a tap into the water supply

The most difficult method, which requires certain skills and is usually performed by masters. Although it is quite within the power of anyone who has tools at hand and knows how to work with them. As always, there are several options.

Steel pipe

Steel pipes have been almost completely replaced by more modern metal-plastic and polypropylene pipes, but are still found in older houses.

The bottom line is to drill a hole in the pipe and install a special coupling on it, into which the tap is screwed in and the washing machine's inlet hose is connected.

What is needed

  • Saddle coupling (saddle, saddle clamp, vampire insert).
  • Drill or screwdriver.
  • Drill according to the diameter of the hole in the sleeve.
  • Washing machine tap.
  • Fum tape or tow with sealing paste.
  • Spanners.

What to do

  1. Shut off the water using the emergency tap at the inlet and drain the residues by opening the nearest mixer.
  2. Select a section of pipe with free access near the washing machine for inserting the coupling.
  3. Sand the pipe down to smooth metal by removing layers of paint and rust with a knife or coarse sandpaper.
  4. Try on the coupling on the pipe, turning it so that the valve is in the desired direction.
  5. Install the gasket, mounting bolts and tighten with a wrench.
  6. Place a rag or jar under the pipe to collect any spilled water.
  7. Drill a hole in the pipe through the bushing inside the coupling.
  8. Wind several turns of fum tape on the tap along the entire length of the thread in the direction of twisting. If using tow, separate a small bundle and also wind along the entire length of the thread as you twist the tap. Lubricate the tow with sealing paste.
  9. Screw the tap onto the sleeve.
  10. Connect the hose of the washing machine to the tap and twist it by hand.
  11. Open the water and check for leaks.

Reinforced plastic pipe

This thin white pipe with large metal fittings (joints) is an aluminum frame enclosed between layers of polyethylene.

A tie-in into a plumbing made of metal-plastic consists in installing a tee. In the right place, the pipe is cut, its ends are connected with a tee, and a washing machine tap is connected to the free outlet.

What is needed

  • A tee for a metal-plastic pipe of the required diameter (usually 16 or 20 mm) with one female thread.
  • Washing machine tap.
  • Pipe cutter.
  • Calibrator for pipes.
  • Spanners.
  • Fum tape or tow with sealing paste.

What to do

  1. Shut off the water using the emergency tap at the inlet and drain the residues by opening the nearest mixer.
  2. Select a section of pipe with free access near the washing machine for the T-piece.
  3. Cut the pipe with a pipe cutter and spread the ends apart, gently bending them back.
  4. Calibrate both ends of the pipe and chamfer by inserting the calibrator and turning it several times.
  5. Remove the nuts and ferrules from the tee.
  6. Slide a nut and then a ring onto each end of the pipe alternately.
  7. Carefully insert the pipes into the tee until they stop and tighten the nuts by hand.
  8. Hold one of the nuts with a wrench, tighten the other with another wrench, and then tighten the first nut in the same way.
  9. Wind several turns of fum tape on the tap along the entire length of the thread in the direction of twisting. If using tow, separate a small bundle and also wind along the entire length of the thread as you twist the tap. Lubricate the tow with sealing paste.
  10. Screw the tap into the tee.
  11. Connect the hose of the washing machine to the tap and twist it by hand.
  12. Open the water and check for leaks.

Polypropylene pipe

These pipes are the most common lately. Usually, when installing such a water supply system, a ready-made outlet for a washing machine is immediately soldered. If for some reason this was not done, you will have to carry out a sidebar.

As with a metal-plastic pipe, a tee with a tap is installed on a polypropylene pipe. Only the type of connection differs - the pipes are not crimped, but soldered.

What is needed

  • Tee polypropylene MRV (with female thread) of the required diameter.
  • Washing machine tap.
  • Soldering iron for polypropylene pipes.
  • Pipe cutter.
  • Fum tape or tow with sealing paste.

What to do

  1. Shut off the water using the emergency tap at the inlet and drain the residues by opening the nearest mixer.
  2. Select a place near the washing machine for tapping the tee so that you can reach it with a soldering iron.
  3. Use a pipe cutter to cut a pipe section 30 mm shorter than the tee.
  4. Wipe the pipes from water residues and dry them to prevent defects during soldering.
  5. Install a nozzle of the required diameter on the soldering iron and heat it up to operating temperature.
  6. Put the soldering iron on the pipe and one end of the tee, wait 5-7 seconds.
  7. Quickly remove the soldering iron, connect the heated parts and wait about 10 seconds.
  8. Solder the other end of the pipe in the same way.

How to connect a washing machine to a finished sewer outlet

To connect to the sewer, the machine has a drain hose that usually comes out directly from the body. If its length is not enough, it can be extended with an additional one. In this case, the total length should not exceed 4–5 m - otherwise, the capacity of the built-in pump may not be enough for pumping.

If the repair has been done recently and you yourself or on the advice of the masters have foreseen the drainage outlet at the planned installation site of the washing machine, then to connect you will only need to insert the drain hose into this outlet.

How to connect a washing machine to a toilet, sink or bathtub

The basic and simplest option, but with disadvantages. Do not use the appliance while washing is in progress. After draining the dirty water, the bathtub or sink will have to be washed, and if you forget to install the hose, there is a risk of causing a flood.

What is needed

Drain hose holder (included)

What to do

  • Place the holder on the end of the drain hose and snap it into place.
  • Place the curved hose on the edge of a sink, tub, or toilet every time you wash.
  • For reliability, it is advisable to secure the holder with a chain or in another way to avoid accidental fall of the hose and flooding.

How to connect a washing machine to the sewer through a siphon

Another option that allows you to get by with a little blood. The bottom line is to use an additional outlet on the siphon of the sink or sink in the kitchen. The hose is connected to it and the washing machine simply drains the water into the same sewer outlet as the sink or sink.

There are also disadvantages. Over time, when the siphon becomes clogged, the water will drain more slowly and it may happen that when the water is drained from the washer, it rises into the sink, and in rare cases even flows through the top. In addition, if the siphon is clogged, drainage from the sink can enter the washing machine.

What is needed

  • Hose clamp.
  • Screwdriver.

If the hose is not long enough, then:

  • additional hose of suitable length;
  • hose connector;
  • two hose clamps.

If there is no outlet for the washing machine on the installed siphon, then:

tee insert for siphon or new siphon with outlet for washing machine

What to do

If there is an additional outlet on the siphon

  1. Remove the plug from the outlet and attach the drain hose from the washing machine.
  2. Secure the connected hose to the outlet with a clamp.
  3. If necessary, pre-stretch the hoses with a connector and secure with clamps.
  4. Run a test wash and check for leaks.

If there is no additional outlet on the siphon

  1. Replace the tee insert or install a new siphon with an additional outlet.
  2. Follow the algorithm described above.

How to make a tie-in into the sewer

The most difficult of all connection methods, but also the most reliable. After tinkering once, then you can use the washing machine all your life without hassle.

When tapping into the sewer, the same principle is used as with the plumbing. You need to install a tee on the existing appliance to connect the appliance itself and the washing machine. But here, too, there are at least two options.

Cast iron pipe

Cast iron sewerage is now very rare, but sometimes found. In this case, it is better to choose a sink or sink drain in the kitchen as a place for the tie-in. Pipes of a smaller diameter are used there, there is free access and it is much easier to install. If an old cast iron siphon is used, then you will have to replace it at the same time.

What is needed

  • Sewer tee 45 ° of the required diameter.
  • Rubber reducer for transition from cast iron pipe to tee.
  • Rubber reducer for changing from tee to drain hose.

If the insertion point is at floor level or less than 50-60 cm high, then:

a piece of pipe according to the diameter of the sewer or a check valve

If a standard hose is not enough, then also:

  • additional hose of the required length;
  • hose connector (usually included);
  • two clamps for fixing.

What to do

  1. Remove the siphon drain from the drain.
  2. Clean the bend and fit the rubber reducer. Additionally, the joint can be sealed with silicone sealant.
  3. Install the tee inside the reduction, and already insert the siphon drain from the sink or sink into the tee.
  4. Install a rubber reducer in the remaining additional outlet and insert the drain hose from the washing machine into it.
  5. If the length of the drain hose is not enough, pre-build it with a connector and an additional hose, fixing with clamps.
  6. If the connection point where the end of the drain hose is inserted is at a height below 50-60 cm from the floor, additionally install a non-return valve or use a piece of pipe to lift the connection point to a height of about 60 cm.
  7. Run a test wash and check for leaks.

Plastic pipe

The most common option with a simpler and more reliable installation. The connection procedure is similar to the previous one. The only difference is that you will not need to make the transition from cast iron to plastic.

What is needed

  • Sewer tee 45 ° of the required diameter.
  • Rubber reducer for changing from tee to drain hose.

If a standard hose is not enough, then also:

  • additional hose of the required length;
  • hose connector (usually included);
  • two clamps for fixing.

If the insertion point is at floor level or less than 50-60 cm high, then:

a piece of pipe according to the diameter of the sewer or a check valve

What to do

  1. Remove the siphon drain from the drain.
  2. Install the tee inside the reduction, and already insert the siphon drain from the sink or sink into the tee.
  3. Install a rubber reducer in the remaining additional outlet and insert the drain hose from the washing machine into it.
  4. If the length of the drain hose is not enough, pre-build it with a connector and an additional hose, fixing with clamps.
  5. If the connection point where the end of the drain hose is inserted is at a height below 50-60 cm from the floor, additionally install a non-return valve or use a piece of pipe to lift the connection point to a height of about 60 cm.
  6. If it is not possible to raise the drain to the required height, install a non-return valve in the drainage branch and connect the drain hose to it.
  7. Run a test wash and check for leaks.

How to connect the washing machine to the mains

Unskillful handling of electricity is life-threatening, so it is better to entrust the connection of the washing machine to a specialist. We will limit ourselves to general recommendations only.

Wiring in a new house

In new buildings, the wiring is carried out in compliance with all modern standards and requirements, so the washing machine can be connected to any nearest outlet. That's just the usual one, if it is in the bathroom, it is better to replace it with a waterproof closed-type outlet.
