For the best TV series of 2020, we consider Queen's Gambit from the streaming platform Netflix.

Based on the novel of the same name by Walter Tevis, the project tells about the growing up of Elizabeth Harmon. After her mother's suicide, she ends up in an orphanage, where a cleaner teaches her to play chess. It turns out that the girl has an incredible talent for this occupation. Beth quickly becomes one of the best chess players in the United States and is preparing to play with the strongest grandmaster from the USSR. But the girl cannot overcome her addiction to drugs and alcohol.

The miniseries, directed by Scott Frank (Logan's writer and creator of Gods Forgotten), exploded into a bombshell, setting the platform's highest viewership record. And there are reasons for this: the dramatic plot is devoted not so much to chess as to the problems of growing up.

Moreover, the authors try not to go into moralizing: Beth almost never meets evil people on the way, and all her rivals turn out to be very polite and worthy people. This story perfectly reveals the talent of Ani Taylor-Joy, who managed to create a very charming image of the heroine, who, however, spoils her own life.

In addition, The Queen's Move is incredibly beautifully staged: the stylists have chosen stunning outfits for the actress. And even chess games are shown tensely and attractively: with an abundance of long plans and symmetrical shots.

Equally important, Scott Frank meticulously approached the development of the game itself: the famous Garry Kasparov and Bruce Pandolfini acted as consultants for the series, which saved the project from the mistakes of such stories.

The combination of a touching plot, excellent study of game moments and great pictures makes "Queen's Move" the best TV series of the year.
