The military recruited the appropriate: sorcerers, psychics and pseudoscientists. The commander was appointed Colonel Alexei Savin, who himself believed in paranormal abilities.

Although the history of the unit ended there, its students organized many private offices and continued parapsychological and pseudoscientific research. But nothing came of that either.
