The main thing is to learn how to manage your time correctly.
Psychologist and personal effectiveness specialist Benjamin P. Hardy on Medium showed why we can handle even the most ambitious goals if we focus on achieving them and not waste time on nonsense.
Estimate how much time we actually have
On average, 720 hours per month (30 days × 24 hours). Subtract 240 hours for sleep (30 days × 8 hours), 160 hours for work (4 weeks × 40 hours), 60 hours for food (30 days × 2 hours) and we get 260 hours free per month.
3,120 hours per year (12 months × 260 hours). Of course, the calculations are averaged, but still.
During these hours, you can read a mountain of books, acquire new skills and do a lot of useful things. But more often than not, we waste it, naively believing that our whole life is ahead and we will definitely succeed in everything.
Do not say that everything is different with you. The situation will remain the same as long as you deny the habit of procrastinating. To get started, it’s important to recognize that we don’t always use our time well.
Understand what it takes time
Scientists estimate that the average person is distracted by their smartphone 150 times a day. Half of the participants in the experiment do not believe the data: people are sure that they do it no more than 30 times. It turns out that sometimes we are distracted by the smartphone unconsciously.
This is the complexity of the modern world: we are too used to technology. It's hard for us to imagine life without smartphones. We cannot be completely here and now.
But we have to change that if we really want to meet the 10-year plan in 6 months. You cannot achieve your plan by spending time on social networks or in front of the TV.
To understand if you are managing your time right, ask yourself a few questions:
- How long do you surf the Internet?
- How much of this time do you spend on useful activities?
- When was the last time you went to the Internet with a specific purpose and went out, when the goal was achieved?
- How much time do you spend with your family and friends without phones?
If you find it difficult to answer, then, most likely, you are wasting time on the Internet unconsciously. You are less productive than you think.
Manage your time correctly
In order to complete a big plan of affairs in a short time, first of all, you need to learn how to time management. But there are other useful tips as well.
Learn to value your time
Realize that you are not eternal. Understand that life is not infinitely long, and one day it will end. This is a good incentive to rethink your activities, plans and habits in order to get the most out of the allotted time.
Just imagine that there are six months left to live. It is unlikely that in this case you continued to sleep until lunchtime, spending hours scrolling through the feed on the social network. Get down to business as if time is running out.
Define life priorities and values
Revise your business plan in accordance with a clear understanding of what exactly you want to achieve. Eliminate the imposed by society and culture from the plan. Leave what you really need. There will be fewer goals, but their achievement will be deliberate. You will begin to act faster, knowing that you are fulfilling the plan for yourself, and not because someone said so.
Do not be afraid to fail
Get to work without fear of screwing up. Even if things don't go the way you intended, you will gain experience. Don't take failure as a sign that you need to give up on your goal. Consider it a chance to take into account previous mistakes, correct them and get down to business a second time with new strength and knowledge.
Find what motivates you
A full-time job and three kids is not a barrier to completing a 10-year to-do list in six months if you are motivated to work on yourself. Of course, in this case, you will have to study more and faster, the schedule will be tighter. But with a firm intention to achieve a result, you will definitely do it. No matter what.
