People in the 21st century die for their beliefs. They believe there is no AIDS.
What is it about?
HIV epidemic is raging around. According to the PLOS magazine researchers, there are more HIV-infected people in Russia than in any other European country. Namely: more than 1, 16 million people, and these are only registered diagnoses. Many people are simply not aware that they are sick. And some know, but do not want to believe it.
It would seem that it is already clear to everyone that no one is immune from HIV.
The disease has long gone beyond risk groups and affects anyone, not just drug addicts and sex workers.
But nevertheless, there are people in the world who are sure that if the problem is not noticed, it will disappear by itself. They are HIV dissidents. They deny the very existence of the virus.
Isn't the existence of HIV and AIDS proven?
Proven, and many times. The HIV virus was discovered in 1983, filmed with microscopes, isolated in cells. The World Health Organization considers HIV one of the leading global health problems that needs to be addressed: at the end of 2016, there were approximately 36.7 million people living with HIV worldwide. For example, this is how a virus looks like: black round dots - this is it.
Then why is it denied?
The fact is that any new theory encounters resistance. So it happened with HIV infection.
The wave of denial arose against the background of the fact that antiretroviral therapy (ARVT) was once really ineffective, but with many side effects. Now these drugs are not used, but the fear of treatment remained and transferred to new drugs. They also have side effects, like any drugs, but they keep the disease under control.
Also, denial is part of accepting grief, but it is at this stage that HIV dissidents get stuck. We asked a psychotherapist what turns people into dissidents.
First, dissidence occurs when a person feels threatened and wants to defend against it, because living in a safe world is a natural desire.
Secondly, HIV dissidence is largely due to the lack of elementary education. At school, no one teaches anyone about sexuality, there is no literacy at all in matters of contraception.
Third, beliefs that are formed throughout life are difficult to change without a personal desire for it. There is such a cognitive distortion - the tendency to confirm one's point of view. At the level of unconscious processes, death to beliefs is equal to death at the symbolic level, because a person identifies himself with his thoughts.
Fourthly, the environment in which a person lives is important. If in the environment a sick person becomes an ugly duckling, then it is easier for him to adjust and it is easier to believe that he is healthy.
Do the dissidents have any proof?
Most of the evidence is the opinions of experts or those who call themselves such. The most distinguished dissenter is Peter Duesberg, professor of molecular and cellular biology at the University of California, Berkeley. He wrote a book about how the HIV virus is fictional and that drugs, lifestyle and aggressive pill treatments lead to disease.
Olga Kovekh, a doctor who is trying to treat the virus with prednisone via the Internet, is known among Russian active fighters against HIV. She even earned the nickname Doctor Death for this. In December, Olga Kovekh was fired from her job, but she does not part with her views. In 2017, the therapist participated in the conference "Scientists against myths", she reached the final of the competition "Honorary Academician of VRAL - 2017" (Prunic Academy of Pseudosciences), which was created by the portal Antropogenesis.ru and the Evolution Foundation.
All other "evidence" that supposedly nobody saw the virus or that it does no harm has long been disproved by science.
And what does the picture of the world of an HIV dissident look like?
Something like this: there is a conspiracy of doctors. It is impossible to identify the virus itself, therefore, to simulate the disease, tests are used that show nothing and mean nothing. If you don’t donate blood for HIV and don’t show up in AIDS centers, then everything will be all right.
But if you manage to donate blood and you have found a positive result (and the killer doctors will find it), then you will be forced to take antiretroviral therapy - these are poisonous pills that cause all kinds of diseases and abnormalities. Because of them, people get sick with encephalitis, pneumonia and complex forms of tuberculosis, and not at all because of HIV.
All this was invented by the AIDS mafia in order to launder a lot of money on other people's health. And if you lead a healthy lifestyle and hide from doctors, then everything will be fine.
One of the criteria for sectarianism is the explanation of any phenomenon within one concept. This is the conservatism of views, because they give confidence that everything in this world is clear and subject to you. If the sense of control over the world is shaken, then the cultists will defend themselves.
Alexey Karachinsky
This is a typical picture of a person living within a sect, with the only difference that dissidents do not try to take away each other's last money and apartments.
But how do they live then?
Usually not very good and not very long. VKontakte has a whole group dedicated to combating HIV-dissident views: activists try to convince deniers, give arguments and follow the fate of people actively denying HIV.
Usually, a person finds out a shocking diagnosis, does not receive the necessary information at the local AIDS center, but receives a course of pills. Then he goes to the Internet for help, where he meets dissidents who discourage him from taking a new course of ART, and as long as the body has the strength, the person lives as usual. Then he falls ill, goes to the hospital, does not report the diagnosis, and when the doctors understand that it is AIDS, it is already too late to treat something.
Unfortunately, there are more sad stories in the group than happy ones: people gradually disappear, do not appear on the Internet, die or report the death of children.
And children too?
Yes, HIV dissidents are also dangerous because they can transmit the virus to their children without giving them antiretroviral therapy. This can lead to disability and death of the child. In St. Petersburg and Tyumen, lawsuits were held against parents who, refusing treatment, allowed the death of their own children.
What kind of game?
Usually, it is not forbidden to believe in anything, even if a person believes in something personally to his own detriment. But HIV dissidents are actively promoting their position, forcing people to refuse treatment, and discouraging treatment for children.
If we take the need for self-realization, we will see that it stands at the top of the pyramid of needs. People want recognition, depending on what you mean by that. Active dissidents feel like the leaders who uncovered the AIDS mafia conspiracy. And they themselves sincerely believe that they are making the world a better place.
Alexey Karachinsky
In history, there was a case when the president of a country turned out to be an HIV dissident: Mbeki Thabo did not believe in the virus, and while he was president of South Africa, the curtailment of programs to contain HIV led to more than 330,000 deaths.
HIV dissidence is a way to fraudulently make money on someone else's life by selling pills that do not cure, offering books that do not help.
There are no life hacks. Just don't be fooled and donate blood.
