Health is spoiled not only by stress, but even by thinking about stressful situations. A study by American scientists proves the direct dependence of inflammation on negative thoughts.

Everyone knows that negative thinking is bad for health, and constant stress kills. But not everyone realizes how strongly the body reacts to every negative thought.

In the spring of 2013, a study was conducted at Ohio University, the results of which may cause you to change your mindset. The experiment revealed that negatively colored thoughts directly affect the level of C-reactive protein in the body.

What is C-reactive protein

This protein is a sensitive and rapid indicator of tissue damage. In other words, when inflammation, necrosis, or trauma occurs in the body, the concentration of C-reactive protein rises.

By the concentration of this protein in the blood, it is determined how actively the disease is progressing and at what stage it is. In inflammatory processes, parasitic infections, tumors and injuries, accompanied by inflammation and tissue necrosis, the level of CRP increases very quickly and many times.

So, official medicine knows the dependence of inflammatory processes and the level of C-reactive protein, but how do our thoughts affect its level?

Positive vs inflammation

The Ohio University study involved 34 healthy young women. They were asked to imagine the following situation: you want to get a job and talk about your candidacy, and you are being evaluated by two serious people in white coats, who at the same time are sitting with "stony" faces.

So, half of the participants were tasked with presenting their performance at such an interview, and the other half were tasked with thinking about neutral events and activities, such as boating or going to the grocery store.

The researchers then compared blood samples from participants from different groups. It turned out that the level of C-reactive protein in women presenting a job interview was significantly higher than in those who presented normal, quiet activities.

In addition, when women stopped imagining a stressful situation, the level of CRP continued to rise for another hour, and only after that it stopped and began to decline … It took the women another hour of neutral thoughts to bounce back.

Unhappy conclusions about pessimism

The conclusions are not encouraging, especially if you remember how many negative thoughts are spinning in your head even in calm moments of life, not to mention stressful situations.

We can relive unpleasant moments from the past for half an hour simply because we were reminded of past pain, talk for hours about the negative aspects of life, while experiencing real, strong emotions.

And all this time, while we are offended by someone, angry or upset, inflammatory processes begin in the body, or increase if they are already underway.

But there is also a positive moment in this: now you know about the influence of negative thoughts on health, and not about some ghostly distant consequences, but about quite real processes that continue for about an hour after each negative experience.

You cannot immediately and completely exclude negative thoughts from your life - the habit affects, and the stress will not go anywhere.
