How to sort out your wardrobe once and for all

Before emptying the closet and proceeding directly to the analysis of things, you need to prepare garbage bags (for things to be discarded) and boxes (for things that can be given or sold), and also lay a couple of hours for cleaning.

Parsing and sorting

Step one is to get absolutely all things out of the wardrobe. This will be the easiest way to decide which ones are needed and which ones are not. Go through the items of clothing one at a time, putting them aside in different directions, depending on your decision: leave, give or sell, throw away.

When in doubt about another dress or T-shirt, ask yourself supportive questions.

  • "Have I worn this for the last year?" If the thing rested in the closet, then, most likely, it can continue to lie there idle for more than one month or even a year. It is better to free up space, and not to store things in the wardrobe that are not needed.
  • "Would I buy this thing now?" Imagine that on your last trip your luggage with a good half of your wardrobe was lost and now you need to make it up again. Would you buy what you hold in your hands to replace what you lost? If the answer is an unequivocal "yes", then the thing should be left behind.
  • "Does she need a replacement?" Assess the condition of the item you took. If it has stains, spools, clues and other signs of deterioration, then it is better to replace it with a new and fresh one.

When the sorting is done, do the things you decided not to leave first. Dispose of unwearable items in the trash can. Things that are wearable, but that have lost your sympathy, can be given away. Or sell - so that they do not go to waste. And what should go back to the wardrobe, lay out in piles: top, trousers, skirts, underwear, socks. This will help you match the amount of clothing you have with your closet.

Seasonal migration

Despite careful parsing and sorting, there may be an indecent lot of things left. The closet will be packed to capacity when they return to the shelves. There is a way out of the situation. Remove unsuitable clothing from your wardrobe. Rubber boots - in the outer wardrobe in the hallway. Pack down jackets and warm sweaters in vacuum bags (so as not to take up much space) and hide in a drawer under the bed.

Organization of space

Even the smallest wardrobe can be expanded and deepened if desired.

  1. Engage doors and walls … Hanging organizers with sections and pockets can be attached to the cabinet doors from the inside. Another option is to add some hooks to leave things on them that should be at hand. On them, so as not to get lost, you can hang scarves, scarves, belts and other trifles.
  2. Use the "matryoshka principle" … Suitcases and bags stored in the wardrobe will help save space: you can put some things inside (for example, the same seasonal clothes) from the shelves.
  3. Add a second barbell … Tall cabinets often leave a lot of free space above or below the hanger bar. Use it: the second beam will allow you to hang even more things. Shelf space will be freed up.
  4. Buy special hangers … You can hang two or three shirts at once on one ordinary one. And you can find ultra-thin hangers that can easily fit on a bar of any length. Another option is multi-tiered hangers with covers, which are ready to take on their hangers several suits at once.

Selection criteria

Order in the closet is required so that it is always easy to find the right thing in it. You should not make a dump by throwing clothes inside at random. Keep your wardrobe functional. Therefore, before returning things there that are not destined to be thrown away or given away, decide on what principle they will be decomposed.

  1. By style … Let clothes for work, things for walking on weekends, for parties, for summer vacations, for winter cold lie in different piles.
  2. By sight … You can sort things differently: all T-shirts - together, as well as jeans, skirts, dresses, blouses, sweaters and other items of clothing.
  3. By color … Color sorting also has its advantages. When there are stacks of green, blue, white, red things, it becomes easier to combine them with each other.

There is another tip - to divide the space in your wardrobe into several zones. The first should be the most accessible, within the outstretched hand. Put the most common things that you wear most often there. Let the wardrobe items, which are less needed in everyday life, go to the second zone: for example, elegant dresses and blouses. The third zone is with clothes for business meetings: formal shirts, trousers, jackets. Well, the fourth zone - the farthest one - can be filled with things, the need for which appears very rarely.

Whichever recommendation you choose, you can be sure: this order of time will take much less time to get ready in the morning.

Saving the result

It is one thing to put things in order, and quite another to maintain it. It can be even more difficult. If you follow a couple of helpful tips, your next cleaning won't take long.

  1. Keep an empty bag in your wardrobe to store clothes that you no longer like or, for example, become outdated. Then you don't have to waste time trying to find such things in the general mass.
  2. The hangers should not "stick together". In such a situation, some of the hanging things will simply not be visible. Separate the hangers one centimeter from each other.
  3. By the way, about the hangers. Let them always remain in the closet in the same quantity. You cannot add new ones: then you will know that something you bought by accident and often not very necessary to you will simply have nowhere to hang.

This universal instruction can be used again when the wardrobe needs a spring cleaning again. But it is better to try to keep it in order after the first such analysis - for your own convenience.
