17 tips to help you find a good job
17 tips to help you find a good job

Bato Shoibonov, Content Manager at DataLine, shared his tips for finding a job on his Facebook. Lifehacker publishes a note with the permission of the author.

1. A clear goal setting is achieved over time

The longer you think and try to set goals, the more clearly the goal becomes. This is not really advice, consider it an epigraph.:)

2. Highlight the directions of your activity

It seems to me that now a more or less smart young man can work as anyone in the field of Internet professions with due diligence and a desire to learn.

3. Choose which company to work for

Not by name and brand, but by type of activity and industry.

4. Count your money

Try to figure out how much time you can spend on your searches so you don't have to postpone your financial goals. For example, buying a MacBook or touring Europe. Calculate how much you spend per month, and then calculate the approximate time to look for a job, so that later you do not make a decision under the pressure of financial circumstances.

5. Don't go nowhere

It is, of course, romantic, but my tension (stress) started to grow after the third week of searching.

6. Do not post publicly your resume

Your current management may not understand it this way. Better put access to your resume by link and apply for vacancies yourself. But that doesn't insure you that someone might want feedback from your boss.:)

7. Understand your attitude to work

Think about the things you enjoyed and enjoyed in addition to money. For example, I like communication and completing tasks. And do you really need a job? Maybe it's time to try to do your own thing?

8. Highlight the criteria for work

This can be leadership, location, earnings, the scope of the company, your responsibilities. Make a table in Google Docs where you will compare different positions (options) of work. Imagine choosing a laptop. It seems to me that there will always be times when you will not know how to fill in the column in the table. This is fine. But the sign will still help you to look at the options more adequately.

9. During the interview, ask how your working day will be

Find out in what proportions responsibilities will be distributed in terms of time and priority from the immediate supervisor.

10. If after four interviews you have not been able to get a job, draw conclusions

Describe in a notebook what you did, what kind of feedback you received, what advice you can give yourself for the future.

11. Be sure to ask for feedback after completing the test task

It will be helpful to know how relevant your skills are.

12. Criticize your career from a third party

You can, for example, act out your mom.:) Try to highlight the obvious mistakes of the career path that are visible from the outside. For example, you do not notice the results of your work, it is not clear who you are working for, there are no recommendations, no one in the industry knows you. This will help get rid of the opinion of your ego.

13. Calculate your conversion as you get the final job offer

So that later you can be guided by this figure. It helps you not to get nervous and not let your tension lead you into the abyss of despair. I counted the conversion like this: the number of views - the number of invitations - interesting invitations - where they took (offer). Then I counted the conversion at each stage of the funnel.

14. Think about your development strategy

Search time is a pause before a big race, so it’s better to immediately decide where you are running, and not to rejoice too quickly, even if you were taken to Yandex.

15. Find a part-time job or clients

Do this if you cannot afford to interrupt your cash flow, for example due to financial goals or circumstances. Searching for a new job and part-time work can be quite combined.

16. Make plans for the week if you are not doing well with motivation and discipline

When you start waking up when it's convenient for you and going out when you feel like it, it's very hard to force yourself to join the not-so-inspiring job search process.

17. Avoid deprivation

This is when you are deprived of something important. For example, for me, work has been and remains a significant part of my life. Therefore, when I was suddenly not needed by clients, bosses and colleagues, I felt deprivation. This makes it difficult not to forget about your own dignity - a very important thing for interviews and negotiations.
