New in iOS 12, this feature helps you track how much time you and your kids spend on a particular app, and lets you set usage limits and other restrictions. But, unfortunately, it gives a lot of trouble if you accidentally forget your password.
Apple in such a situation does not offer anything other than a hard reset and reconfiguration of the device. However, there is a better solution - the free utility Pinfinder, with which you can find out the forgotten password by pulling it out of the backup copy of the gadget. Here's how to do it.
For macOS Mojave users. For Pinfinder to be able to open the backup, you need to allow access to the disk for terminal programs. To do this, open Settings → Security and Safety → Disk Access, click the lock icon and enter the administrator password. Then click + and add Terminal by selecting it from the Applications folder.
1. Download Pinfinder from.
2. Connect your iPhone and select it under Devices.
3. Make a backup by clicking the button of the same name.
4. If using iOS 12, select create an encrypted copy and set a password.
5. Launch Pinfinder by double-clicking and enter the password if required.
6. After a couple of minutes, the utility will find the forgotten PIN codes.
That's all. It remains to enter the password to unlock on the device. This works for both Screen Time and Restriction password. Supported gadgets with firmware version from iOS 8 to iOS 12.
You don't have to worry about the security of your data: Pinfinder does not send it to external servers and is open source, which the utility developer has published on GitHub. The utility is completely free and available on macOS, Windows and Linux.
