10 new action movies worth watching

For the premiere of "John Wick - 3", Lifehacker has collected films with shootings and a tense plot that have been released over the past year and a half.

1. Mission Impossible: Consequences

In the previous part, Ethan Hunt and his team neutralized the leader of the criminal organization "Syndicate" Solomon Lane. But it turns out that the remnants of the group are still in business and now they are led by a certain John Lark. Hunt will have to prevent the sale of plutonium and figure out the villain.

Each part of the Mission: Impossible franchise is a highlight in the world of action. Moreover, Tom Cruise continues to independently perform all the tricks. It would seem that in previous films, viewers have already been shown all possible fights. But the final showdown in Aftermath once again set the highest bar for the genre.

2. Assassin-2: Against all

Mexican drug cartels send terrorists to the United States. The government gives federal agent Matt Graver maximum authority to remedy the situation. He decides to start a war between two criminal clans and for this he teams up with the mercenary Alejandro. The partners kill the mafia boss and kidnap his daughter.

Filmed by Denis Villeneuve, the first part looked more like a tense thriller, and Benicio del Toro embodied a truly frightening image of a mysterious mercenary. In the sequel, the atmosphere changed to a simple action movie. Yet the dynamics and cruelty have not disappeared anywhere.

3. Roll into asphalt

Elderly police officer Brett and his younger colleague Anthony are suspended for a video of them beating a suspect's testimony. Lacking money and work, partners change sides and find a place for themselves in the criminal world.

Director S. Craig Zahler makes very harsh films in which the depiction of violence is very close to realistic. But Roll Into The Asphalt looks more holistic and meaningful than the previous work, Fight in Block 99. Plus, Mel Gibson is incredibly charismatic in the title role.

4. Hunt for thieves

Sheriff Nick O'Brien is investigating the hijacking of an armored police car. The hero realizes that he faced a gang of former military men planning a robbery. Meanwhile, the criminals decide on the biggest thing - to steal money from the Federal Reserve Bank, which is considered an impregnable fortress.

The film has an excellent cast: Gerard Butler, Curtis Jackson (aka 50 Cent), Pablo Schreiber and many others. Together, they showed a tough confrontation between brutal police officers and experienced criminals.

5. Cavalry

Following the events of September 11, 2001, the government dispatches a small detachment of Marines led by Mitch Nelson to Afghanistan. There, the military must help General Abdul-Rashid Dostum and his army. To do this, they will have to overcome the desert on horseback.

This film is based on Doug Stanton's book Horse Soldiers, which retells the real events that took place in Afghanistan. The flamboyant cast, led by Chris Hemsworth, vividly and without excessive grotesque showed the difficult situation faced by the Americans in unfamiliar terrain.

6. Triple border

Santiago Garcia, nicknamed Pope, has worked for the Colombian counter-narcotics department for several years. He tries to catch the most influential drug lord Lorea, but the informant reports that the authorities have long been bribed. Having learned about the location of Lorea's secret residence, Pope gathers his old team of former special forces and decides to personally deal with the drug dealer, and at the same time make good money.

The action of one of the most striking full-length premieres from Netflix is divided into two parts. The first half of the film is a typical action movie, but then a viscous drama unfolds in beautiful natural scenery.

7. Polar

One of the most dangerous killers in the world, nicknamed the Black Kaiser, is retiring. But the former employer is in no hurry to pay him the money he earned, but sends a detachment of mercenaries to the Kaiser.

Polar has been criticized a lot for its similarity to John Wick's theme and silly plot twists. However, Mads Mikkelsen in the title role and good visuals make the film quite exciting.

8. Passenger

Former police officer Michael McCauley worked as an insurance agent for 10 years and traveled the same train route every day. But he is fired. Returning home, Michael receives a considerable sum from a stranger and a task - to find one passenger on the train. And this becomes the beginning of a risky game.

Director Jaume Collet-Serra has already worked with actor Liam Neeson on a similarly plotted film, Air Marshal. There the action took place on an airplane. However, the secondary is still not felt here. The narrow scenery of the train adds a separate pleasure, but the camera shows the picture very clearly without unnecessary flickering, even in action scenes.

9.22 miles

A special detachment led by James Silva is sent to Indonesia. The soldiers will have to take out an informant from the country who is ready to tell where the weapons of mass destruction are. They only need to travel 22 miles. But the local authorities want to return their man and are throwing all their strength into capturing the detachment.

This is the third collaboration between director Peter Berg and actor Mark Wahlberg. And they again managed to create a tense action, showing the confrontation between a small team and an entire army. And the ending of the story is completely unpredictable.

10. John Wick - 3

After John Wick broke the killers' rules of the world and killed a man on the grounds of the Continental Hotel, he had to flee New York. Wick is being pursued by literally every hitman in the world. But there are those who want to help him.

Films about John Wick are considered some of the best action films of recent years. Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski combine continuous action with very beautiful shooting and staging of fights. The third part of the story again delights critics and audiences.
