New life does not start on Monday, New Years or Summer, it starts when you are ready for it. In this guest post, Alexander Andrianov, using the example of the gym, tells why everyone's favorite approach of “beautiful dates” never works and what is really needed for your life to start changing.

Monday is a terrible time: the people in the fitness club are not crowded. There are real traffic jams in the locker rooms, you can't go to the simulators, there is a queue in the showers. The country lives in sports!

But here's an amazing thing: there are already fewer people among the people, by Friday - significantly less, and on Saturday the hall is practically empty.

This is because people are "starting a new life." This usually happens on Monday. They read two or three articles on the Internet, come to the audience, thinking that they already know and can do everything. They don't even need a coach with such baggage.

Then they absolutely haphazardly approach the simulators in turn and are killed there in full. That is, literally not sparing myself: since I decided to go in for sports, I decided so. And sport, as you know, is blood, sweat and tears.

It’s good if this figure doesn’t faint out of habit. But even if it does not crash, then the next morning he will curse everything in the world, because he can hardly even move calmly - the whole body will whine like hell.

And then the comrade will decide that sport is probably still not for him. This is for the young and early, but he is already too late. Yes, or simply, well, he was not created for this. It was created for beer, even for vodka on holidays, but somehow not very good for sports.

The most stubborn ones will come back on Tuesday, possibly on Wednesday, and, having killed their body just as haphazardly, will say goodbye to sports forever. They will come a couple of times a month to clear their conscience, they say, they bought a subscription for a reason. And even after a particularly stormy libation - "improve your health."

It is impossible to "improve health" after drinking alcohol in principle, but people themselves have a mustache. Just think what the doctors say there - they are supposed to exaggerate according to their status.

In general, in a fitness room, you can easily predict attendance. This is almost all Mondays, the beginning of the month and especially the beginning of the year - if you only knew how many beginners of a new life come in January.

And I always watch this picture with some sadness, because it is always the same. It is very good if out of 50 such enthusiasts, at least 3-4 people remain in a month.

Change your life for real

Of course, I welcome in every possible way when people come to the hall, but, in my opinion, there is nothing more stupid than adjusting your visit to a beautiful date, Monday or the beginning of the year. All these beautiful dates are fiction.

The desire to go in for sports, like any other desire, must mature.

A person must realize, feel why he needs it, what he wants to change in his life and what he really wants, but he simply cannot live without it, and this is not some kind of momentary whim!

And when the desire has matured - that's when you need to come to the hall. Only in this case the person will have motivation. He will consult with a professional trainer, build a training program, discuss what results and after what time he will be able to achieve, be sure to discuss nutrition - in general, he will approach the issue systematically.

Sport is a long-term strategy. There is no such thing that all his life he ate as God reckons, did nothing, and come in January and want a figure like Brad Pitt's and press with cubes by summer. Yes, in the best case, you will have this figure in two years, and then if you practice regularly.

A person who comes to the gym on a beautiful date is not really up to sports. He wants to amuse his pride, so, they say, what a clever person I am, at this wonderful moment sports will come into my life. My wife will be proud of me, my friends will shake hands with respect!

They want to get the approval of loved ones, to pay tribute to fashion, to start living like a certain moral authority lives. Anything, but just do not plow to the seventh sweat. They are not ready to change their lifestyle, food, in some way to limit themselves, to endure.

They hover in the clouds, imagine that the cubes will descend on them from somewhere above. By magic! They have no idea what awaits them, and when faced with this, they lose their will.

I call such people dogs in the manger: they will still soon enough leave the audience forever, at the same time create unnecessary crush and interfere with those who are serious about doing it.

If you decide to change your life and start doing something - be it sports, a new business or building a house - don't wait for a beautiful date. Do when you feel the need.

And approach the question systematically: study the topic carefully in order to prepare for what you will face.

So, instead of pretty dates as leverage for motivation, use:

  1. Ripe desire. You are fully aware of the need for a new occupation, its timeliness and the difficulties that you will face.
  2. Systems approach. You learn as much information as possible about a new case, find out what is required of you.
  3. Patience. You don't expect quick results, you enjoy the process and small victories.

These three points will provide you with inexhaustible motivation and will be great crutches for willpower.
