You won't get close to your goals if you make one of these mistakes.

Have you made a to-do list for the new year? Now find out why you don't do it!
Have you made a to-do list for the new year? Now find out why you don't do it!

For many, the approach of winter holidays is a reason to sum up the results of the year, as well as outline the main goals for the next one. We take a new expensive notebook (this is important!), A beautiful pen, think about it and … Again we write about the same words that we wrote a year ago: "lose weight", "change jobs", "go in for sports", "quit smoking" and so on by the list. Why it happens?

1. This is not your goal

The true value of a person is measured in the things to which he aspires.

Marcus Aurelius Roman emperor

If you set the same goal for yourself year after year, but cannot get off the ground in any way, it is quite possible that you do not really need it. The goal can be imposed by the environment or advertising. It will be difficult for you to travel to tropical islands if your favorite is to fish in a nearby pond, or to get a promotion at a job you hate.

So before making your list, make sure that this is what you want with all your heart. The goal should be in line with your interests and affections.

2. The goal is set incorrectly

Chances are, your list of eternal goals includes items like “get healthier”, “make more money” or even “get more energetic”. All these dreams are doomed to failure in advance, because they do not meet a few simple conditions:

  • the goal must be specific;
  • have a clear condition for achieving and measuring progress;
  • can be decomposed into several simpler tasks.

Your list should not include the abstract "get healthier", but the concrete "run 1,200 kilometers in a year." This goal will then find its expression in the monthly and weekly plans.

3. You don't have a plan to achieve your goal

No matter will seem impossible if you break it down into small parts.

Henry Ford American industrialist, inventor

You can set yourself arbitrarily ambitious goals, but without a specific plan, they will remain unrealized. Each goal should form the basis for a plan of small and specific activities, clearly linked to dates and circumstances. This plan may not be flawless, but it must be.

4. You don't track progress

Don't give up on your plan right after the holidays are over. Let him be always at hand. Better yet, set a reminder on your calendar and come back to it every month. Create a system of accounting and control of the achieved indicators, whether it is lost kilograms, covered kilometers, earned money or written pages. Reward yourself for your progress.

5. You don't adjust plans

Only ideal movie people are never wrong. You can set yourself a goal beyond your strength or chart the wrong way to achieve it. Life can take a dramatic turn that you simply couldn't foresee. Don't be afraid to admit it and make adjustments.

For example, suppose you want to lose weight and have developed a thorough running workout plan to do so. But if in the process it turned out that running is not yours, or too hard, or is contraindicated for your body, then achieve your goal in another way. But in no case give up the goal!

6. You don't believe yourself

Belief in yourself and your capabilities is one of the main secrets of success. Set the same goal for two people, and the one who believes will find ways to achieve it, and the one who does not believe will seek excuses and excuses.

Look again at the list of your future accomplishments. Do you really believe you can do it? Well then, good luck!
