With the update to Safari 14, Mac users have noticed a new preview of open pages: just hover over a tab to see a small window with an image of the site. This helps you to quickly navigate in dozens of open tabs, but it can be annoying for someone.

There is no way to disable this option in the browser settings, but if you have a couple of free minutes, you can remove the preview pretty quickly using the terminal. Here's how to do it.

How to disable tab preview in Safari 14

Before opening the terminal, make sure that it has access to the required data. For this:

  • Open System Preferences → Security & Privacy.
  • In the "Access to Disk" section, click on the lock-shaped icon to make changes. To do this, you will need to enter a password from a computer or use a fingerprint scanner.
  • Click on the "+" and enter "Terminal" in the search to find the desired utility. Click "Open".
  • After making sure that the required program appears in the list, close the settings.

After that, open a terminal and enter the command:

defaults write com.apple. Safari DebugDisableTabHoverPreview 1

Press "Enter" and then restart Safari: there will be no more annoying previews.
