On the Internet radio channel SiriusXM, a video appeared in which the presenters talk with Ryan Johnson, the director and screenwriter of the detective Knives Out, which was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Original Screenplay category. Recently the head of Lionsgate that the sequel was given the green light, Johnson has now shared the details about it.

First of all, the director noted that he does not consider the new film a sequel as such. Even while working on the first part, he was guided by how Agatha Christie worked on novels about Hercule Poirot: this is an independent story about Benoit Blanc and a secret that he must reveal. And next time we as spectators will have “a new cast, a new location and a new mystery”.

When asked where the next story would take place, Johnson replied, "in space." Most likely, this is a joke, hinting that the location can be any, but it is still impossible to know for sure. He added that in Christie's novels, he likes the way each book combines different combinations of genres - and that he is attracted to this method.

Talking about how he worked on the original Knives Out, he noted that it is extremely wrong to think that the main thing in a detective story is the cunning of the solution. Johnson drew for himself that it is not important who committed the crime, how and why, but the requirements applicable to any movie: a story that is interesting to watch, a hero that you want to follow, and an ending that gives a sense of completeness. That is why the final scene of the film is not the disclosure of the criminal, but, if I may say so, Martha's farewell to the Trombies, the end of her story.

Nothing is known about the release date of the new story about Benoit Blanc. It is also unclear what title the next film will have.
