Introduced in iOS 9.3, the Night Shift function, or, more simply, night mode, can be turned on automatically on a schedule. However, some users are faced with the fact that this feature is not available to them. We'll show you how to fix it.

Night Shift changes the color temperature of the display towards warmer tones to reduce the effect of the cool blue light on circadian rhythms and, as a result, save you from falling asleep. The function can be activated manually directly from the Control Center shutter, but it can also be activated automatically according to a set schedule, adjusting the color temperature depending on the time of day.

Unfortunately, some users did not have the scheduling function at all. It turned out that this is not a bug or a regional restriction: it's all about geolocation services. Night Shift requires access to location data for the system time zone service for automatic operation. If it is disabled, then the schedule function will be inactive.

The solution is quite simple - enable the required service, and for this you need to do the following:

1. Go to "Settings" → "Privacy" → "Geolocation Services".

2. We find the item "System services" and turn on the toggle switch "Time zone" in it.

3. Restart the iOS device by pressing the Power and Home buttons at the same time and holding them until an apple appears on a white background.

After rebooting, go to "Settings" → "Screen and brightness" → Night Shift and see the "Scheduled" section that appears. This is the schedule we need.

In addition to Night Shift, another interesting feature has appeared in iOS 9.3 - protecting notes with a password or Touch ID. We talked about it in more detail here.
