On June 28, Backup and Sync, a new version of Google Drive, will be released. It will no longer be a simple cloud storage, but a powerful tool for creating backups of files.
Soon, information won't just be stored in Google Drive. The new service will be able to track and back up files in all folders that you open. This could be your desktop, your entire Documents folder, or some other specific location.
Backup and Sync will replace the Google Drive app. The service is already integrated into the Google Photos downloader for Windows and macOS. The company advises regular users to download the new app as soon as it comes out. But for now, business users are advised to continue working with the old version of Disk.
It is not yet clear what features will appear in Backup and Sync. Presumably, you will still be able to open and edit files stored in the cloud. But it is not known if it will be possible to synchronize these files on other computers using Disk as an intermediary. The limited space in the cloud should also be taken into account: the free 15 GB will run out much faster.
However, users should like the innovation. Many have long been asking to add something similar to Dropbox: at the moment, you have to store files from the cloud in a specially designated folder. Backup and Sync solves this problem.
