What is Kickstarter and Indiegogo

Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and other crowdfunding platforms provide inventors with funding and a chance to bring their ideas to life. Ordinary people act as investors and get the opportunity to take advantage of technological innovations even before they go on sale.

How it works

It's pretty simple. The creator prepares a presentation of the project, declares the required amount to start mass production and the minimum donation to support the campaign. After that, interested users place their pre-orders at discounted prices, which are much lower than retail prices.

Further, two options are possible. If, within a specified period, the project collects the required amount, then the creators produce the first batch of goods and send them to investors. If it fails, the service returns money to all customers.

How to buy on Kickstarter

Step 1. Register

1. Go to the service website and click Sign in.

2. Click Sign up!

3. Enter your name, mail and password, then press the green button.

Step 2. Map binding

1. Click on the profile icon and then on the Edit profile link.

2. Go to the Payment methods tab, enter your card details, zip code and click Save.

3. After that, the card will appear in the list of available payment methods.

Step 3. Purchase

1. Open the page of the project you like and familiarize yourself with the terms of the campaign: terms, progress of fundraising, product price and delivery date.

2. If everything suits you, click the Back this project button.

3. Select one of the delivery options, indicate your country.

4. Click the Apple Pay or Other payment options button for another payment method.

5. Confirm your purchase.

6. After payment you will receive an email with information about the order.

7. At the end of the campaign, when the product is ready for shipment, you will receive another letter with a link, by clicking on which you will need to specify the addressee's data.

8. If the required amount is not collected within the specified period, Kickstrater will return the money to the card.

How to buy on Indiegogo

Step 1: Register

1. Open the main page of the service and click on the Sign up link.

2. Enter your name, email and password, or log in with Facebook.

Step 2. Map binding

Unlike Kickstarter, on Indiegogo there is no card link in the profile. Payment data is entered directly upon purchase (they can be saved for future use).

Step 3. Purchase

1. Go to the project page and specify all the details: terms, the current amount of funds raised, prices, estimated delivery date.

2. If everything suits you, click the Back it button.

3. Select the desired shipping option and click Select this perk.

4. Pay for your purchase using Apple Pay by choosing a shipping address.

5. Click Check out for card payment and fill in all the required details.

6. After confirming the payment, an email with order information will be sent to your email.

7. In case of unsuccessful completion of the campaign, Indiegogo will refund the money to the card with which you paid for the purchase.
