Game of Thrones: What Happened in Episode 4 of Season 8

The fourth episode of the eighth season was released on May 6. The largest battle in the series ended, but Game of Thrones continued to cut it alive (in the literal sense): viewers saw the death of their favorite characters, intrigue behind the queen's back - and only Jon Snow, as always, knows nothing.

What the audience was waiting for

Explaining the goals of the Night King

After Arya plunged a dagger into the King's stomach, the audience was outraged that the character was taken out of the game without explaining his motivation. Some fans believe that the Night King has a successor or that he himself may return in some way. Others do not give up hope just to see a logical explanation of his desire to kill all people.

Taking stock of the long night

The northerners had to light many funeral pyres to pay their last respects to the defenders of Winterfell. The fate of some of the characters was in question, and everyone was eagerly awaiting news. The audience worried about Samwell, who received many wounds, the direwolf Ghost, lost in the heat of the battle, and the Daenerys dragons, badly battered by their dead brother.

Outside the walls of Winterfell, the endless ranks of the funeral pyres of its defenders rise. People say goodbye to their fallen friends, including Jorah and Lyanna Mormont, Berik Dondarrion, Addison Tollet. John makes a speech, and the last honors are given to the dead. By the way, the direwolf Ghost, for whose fate the fans were so worried, is still alive, albeit pretty battered.

Gendry becomes lord

A feast in honor of victory resembles a commemoration for those who fell in battle. But Daenerys decides to add some joy to him: she unexpectedly asks the blacksmith about his roots, and when Gendry thinks that he is facing death, the queen suddenly names him the lord of the Storm's End. With such a generous gesture, she eliminates one of the legitimate contenders for the Iron Throne.

Daenerys sees John as a rival

Allies planning a siege of King's Landing

After a long night, the dragon queen's troops had noticeably thinned out. The Dothraki and half of the Unsullied have died, but Yara Greyjoy has taken over the Iron Islands, and the new prince of Dorn pledges his support.

The advisers convince Daenerys not to destroy the city and take it by siege. According to the plan, the dragons must burn the fleet, and the ground forces must defeat Cersei's mercenary army. Sansa asks for a break for the fighters, but Danny insists on an urgent attack, and John supports her.

After the advice, Arya blocks John's path and calls for a talk. The sisters reiterate their distrust of the Dragon Queen and the need to protect the interests of the family. In response, Jon Snow raises his eyebrows and says that they are not such a family, or rather, instructs him to tell his secret to Bran.

Bronn meets Jaime and Tyrion

Tyrion demands from Jaime to tell about the night with Brienne, but their conversation is stopped by Bronn who has appeared from nowhere with a crossbow at the ready. The mercenary lays it all out: he does not believe in Cersei's victory and is looking for another way to get gold and a castle. Bargaining with the brothers, the thug agrees to spare them in exchange for Highgarden.

Snow leaves Winterfell with Davos Seaworth and ground troops. Before leaving, John hugs Sam and a pregnant Lilly. He says goodbye to Tormund, who, together with the wildlings, goes beyond the Wall, and asks the red-bearded hero to look after the wounded Ghost.

Arya leaves Winterfell

The dog goes to Westeros to finish the last thing: for sure he is going to deal with the brother he hates. Suddenly, he is accompanied by Arya: she does not want to enjoy the glory of the heroine and wants to delete a person from her list - of course, this is Cersei.

Danny loses his second dragon

The dragons Rhaegal and Drogon, on which Daenerys is riding, fly to Westeros. But suddenly the queen is ambushed: the khalisi completely forgot about Euron's Iron fleet, which was waiting for her with a huge crossbow. Cersei's lover fires a pair of arrows and kills Rhaegal, hitting him in the chest and neck. Euron's ships attack Danny's fleet, some of her people die, and Missandei is taken prisoner.

Negotiations fail: Tyrion cannot agree with Qyburn, approaches the walls of King's Landing and addresses his sister directly, reminding her that she is not a monster and knows how to be merciful. Not everyone shares the decision of the writers about the completion of the line of one of the main antiheroes, but it seems that it is final and irrevocable. Nobody will remember more about the dead and winter, and all the attention of the main characters will focus on the new old threat - Cersei.

Varys will claim John's rights

A cunning adviser who served many kings, initially did not share the opinion that Daenerys could become a worthy queen. Now his doubts are so great that he is ready to betray and reveal the truth about John and his origin. The eunuch puts the interests of the Seven Kingdoms above all else and will do everything so that the people (and most importantly, Varys himself) receive a ruler who can lead them to prosperity.

Northern Infantry will fight the Golden Swords

The first clash with Cersei's troops is hardly a success for Daenerys's army, but the answer to the usurper who executed her best friend will be harsh. The teaser footage for the next episode hints at the battle of the land forces of the northerners led by John with the Golden Swords. At the council of war, Varys stated that the forces have leveled off, so the outcome is difficult to predict.

Yara Greyjoy will take revenge on Euron

An equally hot battle will unfold at sea. With a huge crossbow, Cersei's favorite feels invulnerable, but he should be afraid of threats not only from the air, but also from the water. Yara had already taken over the Iron Isles and regained the loyalty of the Ironborn. Now the brave warrior hurries to King's Landing to deal with her traitorous uncle.
