In May, Google announced Android Go, a special version of the mobile operating system for entry-level devices. Now the product has acquired a clear outline and became known as Android Oreo (Go edition).

In the lightweight version of Android, the Californian giant has improved three aspects: the OS itself, its apps, and the Google Play store. Thanks to the optimization of the operating system, the average program runs 15% faster on it.

Android Oreo (Go edition) and standard apps take up 50% less space. The OS comes with nine preinstalled programs: Google Go, Google Assistant Go, YouTube Go, Google Maps Go, Gmail Go, Gboard, Google Play, Chrome, and Files Go. Google Go, for example, weighs less than 5MB. Among other things, bandwidth saving is enabled by default in the operating system.

A section with applications for weak smartphones will appear on Google Play. But Android Oreo (Go edition) users will be able to install other programs from the store.

Devices based on the new OS will start appearing on the market in the coming months.
