1. Portable batteries

What could be more useless when traveling than a discharged laptop or phone? Nothing. Therefore, the first thing to take with you on the road is a mobile battery.

Choose a battery with a capacity of three or four times the capacity of your smartphone or laptop. For a phone with a 2,000 mAh battery, take a battery with at least 8,000 mAh. Taking into account the losses, this is enough for three full charges of the smartphone.

The output current of the mobile battery must not be less than that provided by the smartphone manufacturer (look at the OUTPUT value on the plug). If you are going to charge multiple devices, choose a battery with two or more connectors. If you use Apple gadgets, check if there is a Lightning connector.

2. Internet

Internet roaming is still expensive. For traveling in Russia or short trips abroad, you can choose a tariff among the offers of Russian operators. If you are traveling for a long time and you may need the Internet at any time, try to buy a SIM card from a local operator. As a rule, this can be done with a passport. Information about operators in over 100 countries and conditions of connection can be found here.

If you travel often, buy a tourist SIM card: MTX Connect, GLOBALSIM, SIMTRAVEL, WorldSIM. Check if the operators allow you to distribute mobile Internet over Wi-Fi.

When abroad, try to go online as little as possible. Use applications that work offline. Disable automatic updates. Set a traffic limit and set up notifications when it is exceeded.

3. Headphones

Full-size on-ear headphones will help you stay focused in the lobby of a noisy hotel or on the seashore. Wireless models are battery operated, so you also have to think about charging them. Wired headphones are powered by the main unit, but they often break. Choose models with a sturdy, chaf-resistant cable. Flat wire is less confusing than round wire. Braided wires with an L-shaped plug last the longest.

Bring spare wired in-ear or in-ear headphones with you. In them, the sound quality and noise isolation are worse, but it is suitable for safety net: if you lose or break the overhead, you will not be left without "ears". Take spare ear pads for in-ear headphones. Choose headphones with soft ear tips for better fit in your ear.

It's good if the headphones have a remote control with a built-in microphone for answering calls and controlling playback. If you often have to participate in video conferencing, bring an external webcam with you.

4. Time management tools

To avoid wasting time on your trip, use time management and attention control apps.

RescueTime is a cross-platform time tracker that records all your online activity and helps you find the balance between work and play. Unfortunately, it disappeared from the App Store. There is a Time Doctor app for iOS with similar functionality.

In the TMetric desktop application, you can create work orders and track the time spent on them. Working in Pomodoro mode - concentrating on one task for 25 minutes - is aided by the Goodtime app for Android and Tomato One for iOS.

Postpone non-urgent letters will help the postal addition. It removes the selected mail from the mailbox and sends it back at the appointed time. Works in Gmail, Outlook and Android.

Through BreakFree for your smartphone, you can control the time spent on social networks and games, as well as turn off annoying notifications and even Wi-Fi.

The Forest app connects game mechanics to time management. In it, you plant a new tree every time you get to work. If you take a break from business and open any application on your smartphone, the tree will die. If you finish the specified period of time to the end, the tree will be planted in your forest.
