Realme Watch review - affordable smartwatches with everything you need

Smart watches have ceased to be toys for athletes, moving into the category of everyday gadgets. In addition to monitoring activity, they allow you to find out the weather forecast, control music and work with notifications while the smartphone is in your pocket.

At the same time, you do not need to spend 36 thousand on an Apple Watch to have access to such functions. Models six times cheaper can do all this, for example, the Realme Watch smartwatch from the Chinese brand. Let's find out what else this inexpensive accessory is capable of.

Design

Externally, the Realme Watch does not stand out from other digital watches. The body is made of two types of plastic: matte on the inside and glossy on the sides. The front panel is covered with a protective glass with curved edges. The device weighs only 31 grams, making it almost imperceptible on the wrist.

The novelty is only available in black, but its appearance can be customized with removable straps. The 20mm mount allows you to attach third-party accessories. You can even equip the watch with a steel bracelet, although this combination will look strange.

The assembly is excellent, the waterproofing is declared according to the IP68 standard. The novelty will survive a 30-minute immersion in fresh water to a depth of 1.5 meters, as well as falling into the rain. However, swimming with a watch in the sea or jumping from a tower is not worth it: salt and pressure drops can damage electronics.

On the side is a gold-engraved steel physical power button. All other interaction is carried out through the touchscreen display. The bezels around the screen are quite wide, but this is forgivable for a device of this class.

On the inside there is an optical heart rate monitor and magnetic charging contacts. The watch comes with a USB docking station.

Screen

The watch is equipped with a 1, 4 ‑ inch display with a resolution of 320 × 320 pixels. The matrix is made using IPS technology, the backlight has 10 brightness levels. Also, the protective glass has a good anti-reflective coating, the image remains readable in direct sunlight.

Of course, the screen cannot boast of the highest contrast, as on OLED-matrices, which is why the colors seem a little faded. However, this is not critical for displayed objects: there is no complex graphics in the interface.

Functions

Realme Watch is part of an ecosystem that also includes Smart TV, speaker, air purifier and other IoT products. As soon as they appear on our market, they can be controlled directly from the watch.

In addition, the model is able to determine the level of oxygen in the blood - you don't need to take the Apple Watch Series 6 for 36 thousand rubles. True, one should not expect the accuracy of a medical device from them either.

The novelty runs on its own operating system, which implements all the basic functions for a smartwatch: heart rate and sleep monitoring, a tactile alarm clock, 14 training modes, counting calories burned and remote shooting from a smartphone.

Different sections of the interface display weather, activity and music player widgets. Switching between them is carried out by swipe. So, on top of the dial is the notification area, and below all the main functions: training, monitoring heart rate, oxygen and sleep, controlling music and camera on a smartphone, searching for it.

Scrolling horizontally displays training statistics, sleep quality and weather forecast, as well as shortcuts to some functions.

Three dials are preinstalled in the system, 32 more are available in the Realme Link app. It also displays all the data from the watch and their settings.

Autonomy

The watch received a 160 mAh battery. The stated operating time is up to 20 days in power saving mode. With active use, the watch can withstand up to eight days, which is a very decent result for a model with an IPS ‑ screen. Charging is carried out using a magnetic docking station and takes 2.5 hours.

Outcomes

The device copes well with all the tasks of a smartwatch: displaying notifications, monitoring sports, sleep and daytime activity. Blood oxygen measurement deserves special attention: Realme Watch is one of the most affordable models with this function.

Of course, you can find fault with cheap body materials, unremarkable design and unpretentious IPS-screen. However, if for you a smartwatch is primarily a utilitarian thing, and secondly, a fashion accessory, then you should take a closer look at the new product.
