New Year is coming soon - the time of firecrackers, fireworks, sparklers and other fiery joys. How to choose pyrotechnics so as not to spoil your holiday and enjoy the fire show? The life hacker knows the answer.
In order to avoid possible problems with fiery joys and be perfectly noted, you need to know the answers to three main questions:
1. Where to buy?
The sale of pyrotechnic products is allowed only in specialized retail outlets. Some types of pyrotechnics can only be sold if the seller has a license (this applies to fireworks and large firecrackers).
Of course, you can buy pyrotechnics in the nearest store, but then the responsibility for any possible troubles falls entirely on the shoulders of the buyer. But when buying more expensive fireworks in licensed outlets, the seller bears responsibility for low-quality goods.
2. What to buy?
Any pyrotechnic product is a source of increased danger. Therefore, even the smallest firecracker must undergo mandatory certification. Only products manufactured in accordance with GOSTs and having passed all tests can successfully cope with this task.
The label of high-quality pyrotechnics should contain:
• certification mark, • information about the expiration date, • recommendations for storage and disposal, • address or telephone number of the manufacturer.
For each pyrotechnic unit, there must be a manual indicating the hazard class and the radius of the hazardous area.
Please note: the most dangerous products - IV – V hazard classes - are sold only with a license in special stores (they usually do not sell anything else there). Products of I – III hazard classes are sold without a license.
3. What is prohibited?
• Use expired fireworks and even sparklers: they can behave unpredictably.
• Purchase items that are damp or with traces of drips.
• Buy pyrotechnics with a crumpled or broken wick.
• Dry damp fireworks by heating them in one way or another.
• Store pyrotechnics in a humid or very dry room at high temperatures.
