The book is about how to get more out of your presentations: more emotion, more adventure, more challenges and more results. The best book I've read in 2014!

I just wanted to learn how to make slides.

Instead, MYTH gave me the BEST book I read in 2014. From 46 books.

Why the best? I'll explain now.

What is this book about?

  • How to give presentations.
  • How to speak in public.
  • How to prepare material for a speech.
  • How to create an unforgettable story.
  • And yes - how to prepare slides.

Passion

The book was written by a person who loves his job. Such things are immediately visible.

… Presentations are transformative. This does not necessarily mean that they are changing the audience. This can also happen, but I'm not talking about that now. Presentations transform you and your own ideas. This is not about making you rich and famous. The point is that you will become different, better people. You will become more knowledgeable, more understanding, more sincere and more passionate. Alexey Kapterev

Nowadays, the approach “read 10 books on the topic and you are a guru” is in vogue. You can write your own books, teach people, etc. How different is Alexey!

He read everything that is close to the topic. I attended a bunch of seminars on presentations, screenwriting, acting. I watched hundreds of presentations. Was a participant and organizer of the famous TED conferences that we love so much here at Lifehacker …

And only then did I write a book.

This is noticeable: erudition sprinkles from the pages. But always out of place!

Practical experience

Alexey is a practitioner:

  • He often performs in public.
  • He stood on stage as a stand-up artist and an amateur actor.
  • He professionally advises large companies (Yota, Yandex, Skolkovo) on presentation issues.

By format

The format "delivers".

For example, here's how comments are formatted:

Comments (1)

And here are the notes:

But the main thing is examples. A lot of them. How right, how wrong …

Almost all examples are not invented, but taken from real life. For example, Alexey analyzes the famous presentations and speeches of Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Barack Obama, Albert Gore, Evgeny Grishkovets and others.

Road map

The book is filled with links to:

  • books;
  • presentations;
  • video;
  • blogs.

I appreciate it. In the current maelstrom of books and articles, you seem to have a roadmap with pointers.

Well, in fact, Alexei himself

It would be strange not to show anything from Alexey after the "thick-thick layer of chocolate".

Here is his famous 2007 presentation, "Death via PowerPoint", which received over 2 million views:

And here he is live at the TED conference in Odessa:

In my opinion, great!

Total

Grade:10/10.

Read:Yes. Speakers, writers, bloggers. Anyone who sells their ideas to people.

  1. Interesting to read. Just like a fiction book.
  2. Teaches us the philosophy of great presentation.
  3. And also a lot of small tips that you can go straight to and implement in your presentations.

If I decide to write my own educational book, I will use Alexey's book as a reference.

Wow! Bravo, Alexey!
