  • Duration: 222 minutes.
  • IMDb: 8, 1.

The calm life of a young American woman, Scarlett O'Hara, is disrupted by the Civil War. The heroine has to go through many ordeals and losses and meet true love.

Despite the fact that Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh look harmonious on the screen, a real war broke out between the actors on the set. In spite of his partner, Gable even ate almost a whole onion before each love scene. True, this did not prevent the final kiss of the heroes from becoming one of the most passionate in the history of cinema.

2. Ilsa and Rick, Casablanca

  • USA, 1942.
  • Drama.
  • Duration: 103 minutes.
  • IMDb: 8, 5.

Blaine faces a moral dilemma: to fight for the still beloved woman, or to help her, but lose forever.

The kiss of Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca touched millions of hearts. This is because for the characters it is not only an opportunity to become free for at least one second, but also a question of choosing between feeling and duty.

3. Lisa and Jeff, "Courtyard Window"

  • USA, 1954.
  • Detective, thriller.
  • Duration: 112 minutes.
  • IMDb: 8, 4.

Wheelchair-bound photographer Jeff is forced to stay at home all the time. Out of boredom, he watches the neighbors from the window overlooking the courtyard. And gradually he begins to suspect that a murder has taken place in one of the apartments opposite.

At one time, the strict rules of American filmmaking (known as the Hayes Code) prohibited long kissing in films. But the famous Alfred Hitchcock knew how to shoot very passionate moments in such a way that it was impossible to catch the director by the hand. For example, in the legendary scene where Grace Kelly gently touches James Stewart with her lips, the director used the effect of doubling frames, which allowed him to stretch the kiss in time.

4. Lady and the Tramp, "Lady and the Tramp"

  • USA, 1955.

A young couple has a Cocker Spaniel dog named Lady. A few years later, a small child appears in the family. When the Lady is muzzled, offended, she runs away and meets a stray dog Rogue, who is ready to open the world outside her yard to a new acquaintance. This is how their difficult love story begins.

The episode, where the Lady and the Tramp are having dinner in the backyard of an Italian restaurant, ends with a charming, awkward kiss that has become firmly established in cinema history. It is noteworthy that Walt Disney was initially going to cut this scene, believing that kissing dogs would look extremely ridiculous.

5. Holly and Paul, Breakfast at Tiffany's

  • USA, 1961.
  • Romantic comedy, drama.
  • Duration: 115 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7, 7.

Alphonse and not-so-lucky writer Paul Varzhak move to New York. There he meets a new housemate, Holly Golightly, a frivolous adventurer who idolizes the Tiffany jewelry store. The beauty at first makes a very superficial impression on the hero, but as the plot develops, it turns out that the girl is not so simple.

The original book "Breakfast at Tiffany's" by American playwright Truman Capote had no romantic line at all, moreover, Paul was gay. But in the version of director Blake Edwards and screenwriter George Axelrod, the character turned into the love interest of the heroine Audrey Hepburn. The result is one of the most legendary kiss scenes in movies: in the rain, to the sound of the magical Moon River melody.

Renowned liberal publisher Matt Drayton has devoted his entire life to fighting for the rights of African Americans. But, even despite this, it is not easy for him, together with his wife Christina, to accept the fact that their future son-in-law is a black doctor of sciences.

The film, directed by Stanley Kramer, was released at the dawn of the rise of the anti-racist movement, and in the same year in the United States, the ban on interracial marriage was lifted. The picture became the first in the history of American cinema where a black man and a white girl kiss. True, this is shown very carefully - through the rear-view mirror. Well, a year later, the revolution also touched television: in the Star Trek series, the white captain Kirk and the black lieutenant Uhura kissed.

7. Leia and Han, Star Wars Episode 5 - The Empire Strikes Back

  • USA, 1980.

  • Duration: 124 minutes.
  • IMDb: 8, 7.

Despite the fact that the Death Star was destroyed, the battle for the Galaxy does not even think to subside. Master Yoda begins to teach young Luke Jedi tricks that will come in handy very soon.

The audience waited for a kiss for a long time, which finally clarified the ambiguous love triangle of Luke, Leia and Han (although at one time Leia told Solo that she would rather kiss the Wookiees). By the way, in most of the scenes with Harrison Ford, Kerry Fisher had to stand on a special stand to smooth out the difference in height. The actress was about 30 centimeters shorter than her set partner, which would surely make their kisses funny rather than romantic.

8. Francis and Johnny, Dirty Dancing

  • USA, 1987.
  • Melodrama.
  • Duration: 100 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7, 0.

The shy girl Baby, along with her parents, arrives at the boarding house, where professional dancers, including the handsome Johnny Castle, entertain wealthy guests. Looking at him, Baby firmly decides to learn to dance. Gradually, tender feelings arise between the characters.

One of the most successful romantic melodramas in history captivated audiences with its sincerity. In the frame, the actors really looked bright and lively, there was a genuine emotional tension between them. Only now this was explained by the fact that Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Gray did not get along with each other: their mutual hostility often grew into scandals right on the set. Nevertheless, this did not stop the filming of the iconic love scene in a bungalow, where the heroes dance in private and ultimately succumb to the will of passions.

9. Sally and Harry, "When Harry Met Sally"

Two scenes of the film at once deserve a mention: in one, Harry comes to console his girlfriend, who has just found out that her ex has married another. In the cult melodrama of Harry Marshall, the heroine refuses to kiss clients on the lips, as she considers it to be something intimate. Therefore, the first kiss between the characters of Julia Roberts and Richard Gere happens only in the last third of the film and becomes for them a sign of true love and trust.

This painting by Jerry Zucker is considered a hymn of eternal love. Moreover, there are only two romantic scenes in it. At the beginning of the film, Sam and Molly try to sculpt a four-handed vase. And with such passion that this episode was remembered by the audience as one of the most erotic in the history of cinema. And at the end of the tape, the hero of Patrick Swayze kisses his beloved one last time, leaving for another world. And at this point it is better to prepare a handkerchief in advance.

12. Rose and Jack, Titanic

  • USA, 1997.

  • Duration: 194 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7, 8.

The infamous liner Titanic makes its first and last voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. Against the backdrop of an impending catastrophe, the love story of the rich beauty Rose and the poor artist Jack unfolds.

It makes no sense to enumerate all the merits of this truly great film, which lifted Leonardo DiCaprio to the top of the cinematic Olympus. The audience will find many touching and romantic moments, but out of competition - the scene of the first kiss on the stern of the liner to the melody of My Heart Will Go On.

13. Mary Jane and Peter, Spider-Man

  • USA, 2002.
  • Science fiction, thriller.
  • Duration: 121 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7, 3.

Insecure high school student Peter Parker is fond of science and cannot confess his love to his girlfriend Mary Jane. But one day everything changes: in the laboratory, Peter is bitten by a spider, and the young man gains superpowers. He becomes a crime fighter and soon encounters the villainous Green Goblin, who is also the father of Parker's best friend.

While the legendary "upside-down" kiss of Peter and Mary Jane was filmed, the actors had a hard time. Water, representing rain, poured into Tobey Maguire, who was hanging upside down, into his mouth and made it difficult to breathe. His partner Kirsten Dunst kissed for the first time in such an unusual position and, out of habit, could not portray the proper passion.

14. Charlotte and Bob, Lost in Translation

  • USA, Japan, 2003.
  • Melodrama.
  • Duration: 102 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7, 7.

A middle-aged American actor Bob arrives in Tokyo to star in a whiskey commercial. Escaping insomnia, he spends nights at the hotel bar. There he meets a student Charlotte, whose husband is busy at work all the time. Warm feelings arise between the characters, they have fun and gradually realize that they have something more for each other than just friendly sympathy.

Few movie scenes are discussed more than the ending of Lost in Translation by Sofia Coppola. First, the hero of Bill Murray whispers something in Charlotte's ear, after which the couple, in a burst of surging feelings, tenderly kiss. Formally, the film ends happily, but the feeling of understatement will haunt for a long time, and what the man said to the girl is still arguing on the Internet.

The most interesting thing is that initially there was no kiss in the script - the actors almost completely improvised this episode. Coppola later called this move great. As for the mysterious phrase, the director planned to come up with and insert it after filming, but in the end she left the scene untouched.

15. Allison and Noah, The Notebook

  • IMDb: 7, 8.

Poor sawmill worker Noah and daughter of wealthy aristocrats Ellie fall in love. The girl's parents are against her relationship with a simple boy. The heroine moves with her family, but love helps young people overcome everything in the world.

Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams played incredibly sincerely, but at the same time they could not find a common language on the set. As a result, director Nick Cassavetes had to temporarily close the brawlers in one room. After that, everything quickly improved, so much so that the actors after the end of filming met for another two years.

16. EVA and WALL · I, "WALL · I"

  • USA, 2008.
  • Animation, fantasy, adventure.

To check how things are progressing with the cleaning of the planet, a scout robot EVA flies to Earth, with which WALL · I falls in love without memory. Together they will have to convey to humanity the important news that their home has become fit for life again.

"WALL · I" is deservedly considered a masterpiece of cartoon art. The skill of the artists is so great that they were able to touchingly tell the love story of creatures without the gift of speech. Particularly beautiful was the scene in which EVA gently touches WALL · And with her body, imitating a human kiss, after which the loving robots circle in a dance among the stars.

17. Irene and the Driver, Drive

  • USA, 2011.
  • Neo-noir, thriller.
  • Duration: 100 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7, 8.

Ryan Gosling's silent hero works as a stuntman on the set of films, and at night he moonlights as transporting robbers. One day he decides to help a pretty neighbor, but gets involved in a deadly game.

Nicholas Winding's dark thriller Refn features one of the most extraordinary scenes in the history of cinema. It begins with a gentle kiss, lasts more than a minute, but ends unexpectedly and extremely cruelly. In this episode, the director and actors managed to convey an incredible intensity of pain and despair combined with inexpressible tenderness.

There are many highlights in Damien Chazelle's musical drama. Among them is a love scene in the observatory, when the heroes, inspired by feelings for each other, suddenly acquire the ability to fly and embark on a real starry waltz. Interestingly, the director asked the choreographer to focus on the space dance from the WALL · I cartoon.

19. Eliza and the Amphibian Man, "The Shape of Water"

  • IMDb: 7, 3.

Guillermo del Toro managed to shoot an adult tale about true love and the ability to accept another as he is. The superbly filmed final scene of the underwater kiss delighted critics, and the film itself won an Oscar.

Bonus: a very strange kiss from the movie

Androids David and Walter, Alien: Covenant

  • USA, 2017.
  • Science fiction, horror.
  • Duration: 122 minutes.
  • IMDb: 6, 4.

Spaceship "Testament" flies to the other end of the galaxy on a colonization mission. But on the way, an accident occurs, as a result of which the captain of the ship dies. During the repair, the crew notices a planet nearby, which is almost ideal for creating a colony. The astronauts decide to land on it and scout the situation, which ultimately leads to fatal consequences.

Moviegoers have long dreamed of a prequel to the classic Alien franchise and were thrilled to see the director of the first film, Ridley Scott, return to work on the space parasite story. However, as a result, the fans got a rather weak picture of "Prometheus". The sequel to "Testament" came out even more ambiguous, and the number of awkward plot blunders and unanswered questions only increased.

Almost the only advantage of "Covenant" is a very strange scene in which two clone androids are kissing. Both are played by sexy Michael Fassbender. So, in a sense, it's the actor's kiss with himself.
