What you need to consider to equip the perfect bathroom

Not every apartment has enough room for a private bathroom. Therefore, combined bathrooms are now so popular - an option that allows you to correctly arrange all the plumbing for the most convenient use. Here's what you need to pay attention to to make the bathroom ergonomic.

1. Useful area

Ergonomics means that the layout must provide for free space between the devices so that the location of one does not interfere with the use of the others.

The bathroom should contain the necessary plumbing: a heated towel rail, a toilet, a sink and a bathtub or shower (as an option, a ladder with a shower). The latter depends on your preference. It is possible to add additional elements: bidet, hygienic shower, additional sink (depending on the area).

For the correct placement of all the elements, it is better to contact specialists, since you need to understand not only the filling of the bathroom, but also the possibility of increasing the wet area due to the corridor or other non-residential premises. Pay attention to the location of the devices in relation to the risers. This is especially critical for the toilet - do not place it on the wall opposite to the pipes.

2. Location of the washing machine

It can be placed both in the kitchen unit and in the bathroom, if space permits. You can also highlight a separate room - a laundry room. Placing a washing machine is also allowed in a column with a dryer. The main thing is that at the stage of construction work, do not forget to add a water and sewer outlet, as well as an outlet.

3. Location of the toilet

According to the standard, it is customary to place the toilet at a certain distance from other objects and walls. Namely:

  • the minimum distance is 380 mm from the nearest wall or plumbing fixture to the toilet bowl axis;
  • optimal - 450 mm.

For ease of use, there should be at least 50 cm of free space in front of the toilet. If you want to add a bidet, then you must take into account the same distance in front of it. Between the axis of the toilet and the edge of the bidet there should be between 380 and 450 mm.

If the area does not allow installing both the one and the other object, pay attention to toilets with bidet functions.

4. Sink height

To make the sink convenient to use, it must be installed so that the top edge is at a height of 850 mm. This rule applies not only to conventional sinks with pedestals, but also built-in to the countertop, as well as overhead.

The mirror above the sink should not hang too low (especially if it is with a shelf), and the sink itself should not be too close to the wall. We recommend the minimum distance from the wall - 10-15 cm.

In case you place a washing machine under the countertop, the sink should be built-in.

5. Shower dimensions

To save the usable area of the bathroom, many refuse a bath in favor of a shower. But do not forget that the minimum shower size (750 × 750 mm) is suitable only for people of average build. If people of a large physique will use the shower or if you prefer spaciousness, it is better to choose a shower with a drain or a shower cabin with a size of 900 mm or more.

6. Storage

Any bathroom needs storage space. The layout should assume this. If the bathroom is very small, it is better to use a mirror cabinet or a sink with a cabinet.

7. Choice of color

To visually increase the space, it is better to choose light shades both in furniture and in finishing materials. As a finish, it is better to give preference to porcelain stoneware and moisture-resistant paint. It is better not to use plastic panels: their wear resistance is lower, they look very cheap, and at a price they may not differ from paint or tiles.

8. Lighting

There should be several lighting scenarios in the bathroom. In addition to the main light, you can use a sconce near the mirror or buy an illuminated mirror. Recessed or linear can be used as the main luminaires. The main thing is that such lamps must be moisture resistant, so pay attention to their IP (degree of protection). For the bathroom, IP44 is optimal.

9. Placing outlets

The sockets must also be moisture resistant (IP44). Please note that they cannot be placed close to the sink: the optimal distance from its axis is 600 mm. The same rule applies to switches. They must be provided for turning on / off the sconces.

10. Decor

Bathroom decor can be anything: it all depends on your preferences. Unless we recommend using low quality plastic accessories. And as a bath curtain, you can use textiles or a glass curtain. True, the latter has a small minus - stains will be noticeable on it.
