The hardest part about winter jogging is getting yourself up early and walking out into a frosty, dark morning. But just 10 tips will help you tune in to your morning athletic feats.
1. Train outside three times a week
You probably have a lot more workouts on your schedule, because you need to be in good physical shape to go jogging. Alternate outdoor running with cross training in a warm gym. Then the frosty tingling on the cheeks will even start to please.
2. Sign up for a race
And preferably spring. Then you will definitely not be able to skip workouts - your conscience will not allow. Preparing for a competition is a great motivator. You will have a goal that you can achieve and receive a reward.
In this case, you will not ask yourself why you went for a winter run, since you already know the answer. Even the most inveterate lazy person will have practically no arguments.
3. Recruit a running buddy
It is difficult to get out of bed in the morning or to go out again in the evening after work if no one is waiting for you. It's a completely different matter if you have a companion ready to share your winter running craziness.
If you manage to find a whole group of like-minded people, it will be even better, since the chances of persuading everyone to give up training will be much lower.
4. Remind yourself daily of your goals
Whether your goal is to run faster or longer, lose weight, or simply improve your fitness, remind yourself of this as often as possible. Play it in your head when brushing your teeth in front of the mirror, driving to work, or looking at your running shoes.
5. Make a promise to yourself to always be in shape
When the alarm rings again at 6am, think about it before turning it off and rolling over. Each small victory over oneself reinforces good habits. Soon after skipping workouts, you will either begin to withdraw, or remorse will not allow you to sleep peacefully.
6. Prepare a contingency plan for bad weather
If suddenly you woke up, and outside the window a blizzard, sleet or ice, do not drive yourself out for a run. This will only make it worse: get sick or get injured.
Come up with a backup training plan for these unforeseen circumstances. For example, it could be yoga or a functional workout that you can do at home if you can't get to the gym.
7. Always get your running clothes and bag ready in the evening
When everything is prepared for the training in advance, you will not have time to think: "Maybe I will skip today?" The same goes for light jogging snacks and morning coffee. It is better to prepare all this in advance.
8. Run in the morning
It is advisable to make a morning workout plan, since at this time there is always the opportunity to select a window for running, even if you have a very busy schedule.
In the evening, there are too many temptations and there is a high probability of other things that you cannot ignore (child, relatives, sudden business meetings). So set your alarm at 6 in the morning and go to new heights.
9. Come up with rewards
Some find it difficult to sustain such training without additional incentive. The goal is good. But it's even better if you back it up with small reward gifts that will celebrate, even small, but successes.
For example, buying the desired item after following the training schedule for two weeks without a single pass.
10. Buy yourself some good winter running gear
Buying expensive and high-quality running equipment - shoes, thermal underwear and proper sportswear - is often a great incentive not only for women, but also for men. First, it will help you stay healthy and may even save you from injury. Secondly, you will be tormented by remorse for the fact that you spent a lot of money, and the purchased things are lying around idle.
