Let sports bracelets, smart watches or smartphones do the counting of steps. But now the developers were able to fully focus on the quality of the materials and the reliability of the sneakers.
Appearance and materials
Xiaomi Mijia 2 Fishbone Sneakers are available in female and male variants. The female version comes in white and orange. For men, the choice is wider: black, dark gray, blue and white.
Blue sneakers arrived at Lifehacker's editorial office. The upper is made of durable stretch textile. It is woven with blue and orange thread, which makes the design of the sneaker more interesting and lively. On the sides the knitting is tight, and on the top it is thinner, which allows the leg to breathe.
The armhole of the sneaker is also made of jersey, but with a stretchable elastic insert. Thanks to this, the shoe is easy to put on and fits snugly around the ankle. A very convenient solution that is now used by many manufacturers of running shoes.
The sole is quite thick and white. Diamond-shaped notches are applied along its edges, which do not play any constructive or aesthetic role, but they perfectly collect dirt.
The outer surface of the sole is painted in several colors. There are blue lug spikes in the front, and a black wear-resistant pad at the back. In the middle there are two recesses in which the inner cushioning layer is visible.
Notice the seam between the upper and the sole of the shoe. The connection is made under a high pressure press, so the manufacturer guarantees the safety of the shoes even after repeated washings in an automatic washing machine.
Design
The main feature of Xiaomi sneakers is their special frame, reminiscent of a fish skeleton. Each side of the shoe has five sturdy, rib-like cross strips that end with eyelets. When the laces are tightened, they fit snugly around the foot, providing a secure fit for the foot.
The sole of the sneaker is made of five layers. The outer ribbed coating provides good grip on any surface. It is made of synthetic rubber, which is highly durable.
Then there are several layers of polyurethane foam of various brands, which cushion the impact of the foot on the ground. They are pressed together using a special Uni-Molding technology, which allows you to obtain a monolithic connection without any glue.
The uppermost layer is a breathable anatomical insole that wicks sweat away from the skin. It is easy to remove and can be washed separately from your sneakers.
The back of the sneaker is reinforced with a plastic insert with the logo of Mijia, a subsidiary of Xiaomi, which produces household goods. To make the shoes comfortable to put on, there is a durable eyelet with a reflective element.
Testing
The second version of the sneaker turned out to be 60 grams heavier than the first. But you forget about it as soon as the shoes are on your feet.
The elastic textile upper wraps around the forefoot so softly that it feels like you're just wearing a warm sock. It is basically impossible to rub calluses in such shoes. Side ribs and a dense heel help keep the foot in place and prevent the shoe from dangling while running.
The cushioning sole fulfills its purpose 100%. Running in these sneakers is easy and pleasant. They are good at absorbing impacts on the ground and spring softly with every step.
After several test runs on the ground and grass, the sneakers left only positive impressions about themselves.
However, for use in the cold season, such shoes are unlikely to be suitable due to the light textile upper. Xiaomi Mijia 2 Fishbone Sneakers are designed for dry warm weather or for training in the gym.
Outcomes
The new Xiaomi sneakers have every chance to outshine the glory of the previous model.
From a technological point of view, Xiaomi Mijia 2 Fishbone Sneakers are in no way inferior to eminent sports brands, but in terms of price they convincingly win.
