Despite the title of the collection, just in case, we remind you that we do not support gender stereotypes. A child can love anything, and that's okay. And although these cartoons are usually very popular with girls, boys will certainly watch them with pleasure.

1. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

  • USA, 1937.
  • Musical tale.
  • Duration: 83 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7, 6.

The envious evil queen decides to kill her young stepdaughter named Snow White in order to remain the most beautiful. The princess has to flee from her native castle into the forest, where she meets good-natured dwarfs.

Back in the 1930s, Snow White predetermined the future of animation once and for all. When creating the film, Walt Disney Studios used innovative techniques at the time. For example, thanks to the additional intermediate frames, the animation was smoother than ever, and the characters drawn were as close to real people as possible.

2. Cinderella

  • USA, 1950.
  • Musical tale.
  • Duration: 74 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7, 3.

The meek, kind-hearted Cinderella is left an orphan early. She has to live with her arrogant stepmother and two nasty half-sisters, Drizella and Anastasia. Relatives push the girl around in every way and make her work day and night, but soon a big royal ball is to take place, which will change everything in the life of the heroine.

The writers have significantly reworked the fairy tale plot, removed unnecessary cruelty and added characteristic recognizable features to the characters. The image of the main villain is especially well developed: in the Disney version, Lady Tremaine became the personification of pure evil.

The fairy godmother appears to be a charismatic and slightly awkward old woman who always loses her own magic wand. It may seem that mice Jacques and Gus were added to the cartoon just to add humor to the romantic story. In fact, their confrontation with the cat Lucifer not only amuses the viewer, but also moves the story forward. As a result, the well-known fairy tale began to play with completely new colors and almost immediately turned into a modern classic, which is impressive even today.

3. Alice in Wonderland

  • USA, 1951.
  • Musical tale.
  • Duration: 75 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7, 4.

One day, an inquisitive girl Alice notices a talking white rabbit. Following him, the heroine finds herself in one unusual situation after another.

The charm of this surreal story as retelled by Walt Disney is difficult to resist to this day. Visually, the characters are very different from the classic illustrations of John Tenniel, but it was these images that quickly became part of popular culture.

4. Sleeping beauty

  • USA, 1959.
  • Musical tale.
  • Duration: 75 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7, 2.

Everyone is invited to the celebration in honor of the birth of Princess Aurora, except for the evil sorceress Maleficent. The angry witch sends a curse on the girl, which can only be destroyed by the kiss of true love.

Walt Disney really wanted his studio's new work to be different from all the previous ones. Therefore, the cartoon turned out to be similar to the revived tapestry of the Renaissance and, in general, looks more laconic than the previous Disney fairy tales.

5. Kiki's delivery service

  • Japan, 1989.
  • Animated fairy tale.
  • Duration: 103 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7, 9.

The young witch Kiki must live for some time in the company of people. She goes to the port city of Koriko, where she meets the owner of a small bakery. She helps the ward open an air delivery service on a broomstick.

Initially, Hayao Miyazaki planned that his cartoon based on the book by Japanese writer Eiko Kadono would be quite short. But in the process of work, the script was redone, adding several new storylines. The result of the work of Miyazaki's team was one of the most beautiful stories of growing up and that any obstacles can be overcome if you do not give up.

6. The Little Mermaid

  • USA, 1989.
  • Musical tale.
  • Duration: 83 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7, 6.

The daughter of the sea king Triton, the little mermaid Ariel falls in love with a man. To be close to her beloved, the heroine makes a deal with the sea witch Ursula: she takes on a human appearance, but at the same time is speechless.

Screenwriter Ron Clements felt that Hans Christian Andersen's original tale was too tragic to be shown to children. So the lyrical story of self-sacrifice became a fun adventure musical with a bright heroine and memorable vocal numbers. "The Little Mermaid" revived interest in animation around the world and literally saved the studio, which was in serious crisis for many years after the death of Walt Disney.

7. Beauty and the Beast

  • USA, 1991.
  • Musical tale.
  • Duration: 84 minutes.
  • IMDb: 8, 0.

The well-read beauty Belle lives in a provincial French village and dreams of adventure. The girl's life changes abruptly when, for the sake of her father's freedom, the heroine agrees to stay in the castle of an ill-mannered Beast with a bad character. Belle does not yet know that her jailer is in fact an enchanted prince, who can only be saved by true love.

The cartoon was the first to be nominated for an Oscar as a feature film (there was no separate category for animation at that time). This alone says a lot about the highest level of work of the writers and animators of the Disney studio. A few years ago, a remake was released, which garnered mixed reviews: the film was criticized for poorly thought-out drama, the badly changed moral character of the characters and the terrible singing abilities of Emma Watson.

8. Pocahontas

  • USA, 1995.

  • IMDb: 6, 7.

The daughter of the Indian chief Pocahontas falls in love with a mysterious alien from the mainland - Captain John Smith. But in the way of their feelings, there is enmity between the Indians and the British.

To give the picture a national flavor, specialists in Indian culture were involved in the work, and the role of the leader Powhatan was voiced by the real Indian Russell Means. Nevertheless, the film was still attacked by Native Americans, frustrated by the too stereotypical approach to portraying their ancestors.

9. Mulan

  • USA, 1998.
  • Musical tale, adventure.
  • Duration: 88 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7, 6.

Mulan's parents sincerely hope that their daughter will become a worthy bride. Only now the girl intends to dispose of her life in a completely different way. Learning that each family is obliged to send one man to war, Mulan goes to work in place of his father. For this, she pretends to be a young man, but at any moment she can be revealed and severely punished.

The cartoon is based on a medieval Chinese ballad about a female warrior, Hua Mulan. As in the case of Pocahontas, the project was criticized for its stereotypical portrayal of foreign culture, but still this did not prevent the film from becoming a favorite among ordinary viewers. And next year it is planned to release a remake where there will be no dragon Mushu, but a new heroine will appear - the witch Xian Lang.

10. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

An ordinary schoolgirl Makoto Konno realizes that she can travel in time, changing her past. From that moment on, the girl's life changes forever.

But Rapunzel is growing and increasingly wants to see the world around her with her own eyes. And one day an unexpected guest appears, ready to help her with this.

The original fairy tale of the Brothers Grimm was going to be filmed during the lifetime of Walt Disney. But the studio managed to realize this idea only in our days. As a result, the film marked the beginning of the studio's rebirth after another major stagnation.

12. Arietti from the land of the midgets

  • Japan, 2010.

Side by side with ordinary people live prey - tiny people, slowly dragging away useful things in the household. Baby Arietti is preparing for her first foray into the big world, but everything goes awry due to the arrival of a boy who is waiting for a serious heart operation.

The film based on the fairy tale of the English children's writer Mary Norton and the script by Hayao Miyazaki came out very serious and sad, but at the same time it has a place for a bright and hopeful ending. "Arietti" became the most successful Japanese film at the national box office in 2010 and received rave reviews from critics.

13. Brave at heart

  • USA, 2012.
  • Musical tale, fantasy, adventure.

The wayward Scottish princess Merida is horrified by her mother's idea of Elinor to marry her daughter off for political reasons. Having met a witch in the forest, the girl demands to “somehow enchant” her mother, but does not specify how exactly.

Critics have received mixed reactions to Pixar's attempt to film a traditional fairytale. Nevertheless, "Brave" is a fantastically beautiful cartoon, which is also useful for mothers and daughters to watch.

14. Frozen

  • USA, 2013.
  • Musical tale, fantasy, adventure.
  • Duration: 102 minutes.

Relations between the sisters seem to begin to improve on the day of Elsa's coronation, but a number of circumstances lead to the fact that the new queen escapes, before that accidentally plunging the country into eternal winter. Taking the charming Kristoff as an assistant, selfless Anna goes to help her sister.

Plans to film "The Snow Queen" by Hans Christian Andersen appeared at Disney for a long time. But in the course of writing the script, almost nothing remained of the original, so Frozen can hardly even be called an adaptation. Nevertheless, the cartoon turned out to be great and this year, as expected, it got a continuation.

15. Moana

  • USA, 2016.
  • Musical tale, adventure.
  • Duration: 107 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7, 6.

The Polynesian princess Moana has been in love with the ocean since childhood, but her stern father forbids her even to think about sea travel. Moana was directed by The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Hercules, directed by John Musker and Ron Clements. As a result, the audience received high-quality humor, a touching plot, an original look at Polynesian legends and wonderful musical numbers. The latter should be listened to in the original to appreciate the good vocal abilities of Dwayne Rock Johnson.
