After the success of the film, the secluded Thai beach Maya Bay, where the filming took place, became incredibly famous. It was attended by about 5,000 people a day. At the moment, the beach is closed: a frenzied tourist influx has caused an ecological disaster, and marine life in the bay has practically disappeared.
