The closet is full of clothes, but there is still nothing to put on - a familiar situation for most. The life hacker figured out how to put things in order on the shelves, avoid the temptation to buy everything at the sales and choose a practical wardrobe.

How to tidy up your wardrobe if you have nothing to wear again

We disassemble the rubble according to the method of Marie Kondo

1. Getting rid of unnecessary things

Marie Kondo, author of Magical Cleaning, suggests dismantling the closet in one go. So you will definitely not forget about some things on the far shelf and bring the job to the end. After all, something has prevented you from sorting things out all these years? Lay out all the clothes that are stored in your closet, on the mezzanine and chest of drawers, on the floor to assess the volume of your possessions.

How to understand what clothes to leave and what to get rid of? Marie Kondo offers to part with things that do not bring you joy. Yes, yes, if you have an old T-shirt with a children's print, which is already a shame to put on, but very pleasant memories are associated with it, then you can leave it.

Get rid of things that you haven't worn in the last year. The excuses “suddenly lose weight” or “they told me that I look awesome in it, but I don’t dare to wear it” do not fit. These are candidates to be thrown out.

When sorting your clothes, try to arrange so that your family does not become witnesses of your cleaning, who will probably not like this waste at all.

Don't put dubious-looking T-shirts and stretched pants in the “home” category, especially for mothers on maternity leave and freelancers. Home clothes should be comfortable, no doubt, but they should also be beautiful. So much so that it was not ashamed to open the door for neighbors, go to the nearest store or go for an evening walk.

That unnecessary, which is still quite possible to wear, donate to charity or hand over for recycling. Many of the chain stores accept old clothes in exchange for a small discount.

2. Sorting and stacking

Sort the clothes by type (T-shirts and T-shirts, jeans, lingerie) and fold them in a special way, as shown in this video.

We remove T-shirts and jeans on narrow shelves, and put folded things in low containers on wide ones.

Why suffer so much and make rolls out of clothes? When we store clothes in a pile, there is significant pressure on the lowest things, they wrinkle more. Clothes from the bottom rows are very inconvenient to get, therefore, when storing in a pile, we wear at least 3-4 top things, and the bottom ones continue to wrinkle more and more and finally lose the chance to be put on.

This method is also great for folding underwear and socks. Lingerie that took up an entire chest of drawers will now fit in one drawer, maximum two.

If you don't have the patience to fold things by hand, you can use the Sheldon Cooper-style out-of-the-box solution.

3. We use vacuum bags

Vacuum bags are great for storing seasonal items. They can store both ordinary things and winter jackets and blankets. This significantly saves space in the apartment and is very convenient when moving.

When pumping out air, the bag can take any shape, so if you plan to fit several vacuum bags in a bag or box, then first put the vacuum bag with things in the desired container and only then pump out the air.

The only drawback of vacuum bags is that even the smallest hole will send air back. And there are only two ways out: either fix it if the hole is small, or throw it out.

We buy competently

1. Say no to impulse buying

Did you go shopping for a new workout T-shirt, but on the way to the sports department had to pass by wonderful and necessary dresses and dress pants? Sellers have long learned that basic items should be placed as far from the entrance as possible so that each customer can walk through the entire store.

Is there even the slightest doubt that you need this thing? Do not take it on the same day! If it is worth returning for it, then you will definitely do it. This method perfectly saves you from impulsive purchases. This means it saves money in your wallet and saves space in the closet for more worthy things.

2. Be careful on sales

The main danger of a sale is to spend more than we planned instead of the estimated savings. All these "3 for the price of 2", "the second thing as a gift" provoke us to buy completely unnecessary T-shirts and dubious quality of blouses.

Keep your head sober.

Previewing collections in the online catalog helps to avoid the temptation: this way you will significantly save yourself time in the stores themselves and weed out questionable offers.

The quietest time in stores during the high season is in the morning from 10 to 12 on weekends and the last 1.5 hours before closing on weekdays. At this time, you definitely will not pick up too much because of the queues in the fitting rooms.

3. Go shopping with a friend

A faithful friend will save you from unnecessary expenses and certainly will not hesitate to note that some outfit does not suit you. Shopping together allows you to take a different look at your wardrobe.

Shopping with a friend will broaden your views and stop you from buying another one of the same blouse.

4. Take a look at second-hand shops

It is no coincidence that all famous fashion bloggers do not shun flea markets, garage sales and second-hand shops. If the idea of large hangars, where crumpled clothes are piled on cots, are stuck in your head, then you simply haven't been to second-hand for a very long time.

Today, most second-hand shops are large stores with neatly sorted and steamed clothes.

All clothes undergo compulsory dry cleaning. Brand new products with tags are not uncommon. As a rule, in chain stores, all content changes completely every week, and as the day of delivery of new products approaches, progressive discounts apply.

Second-hand shops can help out if there is a party and need to buy an outfit for one night, if you have children who grow up very quickly, if you are pregnant, you want to pamper yourself with new outfits, and prices in regular stores are biting.

5. Invest in clothing

Always focus on the quality of the item if you plan to wear it for a long time and often. Give preference to trusted manufacturers and natural fabrics.

Natural materials evaporate moisture well and allow the skin to breathe. Synthetic nylon fibers (nylon), polyester (polyester) and polyurethane (spandex) fibers are much cheaper and easier to manufacture, so they are often used to make clothing. Do not be afraid if the blouse you like is spandex or polyester. As an admixture, these materials improve the quality of knitwear, make it more durable and beautiful.

The main thing is that the clothes that come into contact with the body do not consist of one synthetics.

Cotton jersey is ideal for underwear. If cotton absolutely doesn't inspire you, then when choosing lace underwear, which is mainly made from synthetics, check for holes in the weave of threads and a cotton gusset. Then even synthetic underwear will be safe to wear.

In mass-market stores, acrylic is often found in sweaters; its amount in knitted products can be from 5 to 100%. And if outwardly you hardly recognize 100% acrylic, then do not be lazy to look at the label. The higher the percentage of acrylic, the hotter you will be in warm weather and colder in low temperatures.

Clothes made of microfiber and membrane fabrics, which are high-tech synthetics, stand apart. These materials breathe, let steam and air from under the clothing space, do not get wet or blown out.

High-quality linen is made of microfiber. This material is especially suitable for sportswear, as the fabric wicks moisture away from the skin and remains dry. Membrane fabrics are mainly used for tourist and sportswear, where things are used in extreme conditions.

Invest in basic items that will form the basis of your wardrobe. Pay attention to the composition and structure of the fabric. However, things that are bought for one season can be inexpensive and of any quality.

We save our favorite things

Follow the washing and ironing instructions. It is better to wash at a slightly lower temperature than indicated on the label, then the thing will not fade or stretch.

If dry cleaning is recommended on the tag, then such clothes should never be washed.

For example, coats and suits made of natural wool or with its impurity during washing will inevitably lose their shape. Wool absorbs a lot of moisture and, when dry, clothes can skew to one side. The situation can be partially corrected with the help of an iron, but even using it does not guarantee that the thing will take the same shape as before washing.

In an attempt to save money, many people wash down jackets in the machine. It doesn't matter if you wash it with or without special balls, with or without a special shampoo for outerwear, the result will be the same: after washing, the fluff falls into lumps and you get a blown down jacket. Better to take your favorite jacket or coat to a dry cleaner.

By the way, jackets on a synthetic winterizer can be washed, but remember that a synthetic winterizer can come off at the level of the seams if it is badly fastened.

Clothes should never be dried in direct sunlight or on a radiator.

Ultraviolet is the main enemy of not only colored, but also white clothes.

Synthetic materials may not withstand high temperatures, the product will stretch a lot and lose its original appearance. For example, lycra (spandex) swimwear is very afraid of direct sunlight and chlorinated water. This helps the manufacturers to release a new collection of swimwear every year without fear of low demand.:)
