Thinking about our career, making a financial plan, taking care of our health, acquiring a new skill are all important things, usually associated with our long-term goals. But for some reason we put them off again and again, finding something more urgent every day.

Why We Postpone Important Things
Why We Postpone Important Things

1. We are wasting our most productive time wrong

For most of us, productivity peaks in the morning, but unfortunately we rarely use it effectively. Instead, we start checking emails, making to-do lists for the day, or going to a meeting. Although it would be better to spend the morning on activities that require high energy costs, such as planning or calculations.

2. We prefer activities that give us a sense of progress

When we replied to 15 unimportant emails, the result is obvious - 15 replies sent. It seems to us that the time was spent productively. But if we thought about something for an hour, there is no concrete result and there is a feeling that we have not done anything.

Small things that are easy to do and cross off the list are fun for us. So why not make it easier for yourself to work on big goals?

Break down your long-term goals into smaller steps, and then tag each step you take to track your progress and be inspired.

3. We are waiting for inspiration

If you want to do something important, just make a plan and take action. Don't wait for inspiration, even if you're in a creative field. Take the time and get down to business.

4. We procrastinate

Procrastination can include parsing mail, reviewing a to-do list, cleaning the desktop. Such deeds give us the feeling that we have achieved something, although this is not the case. They even take more time than they save.

If you still need to do any of the above, take some time after you have worked on your big goal.

5. We do not realize that we are making the wrong choice

Long-term goals are often not reflected in our daily schedule. On the calendar, we have meetings and other urgent matters, and between them there are empty blocks. And when we see them, it seems to us that this time is free and we can add a couple more meetings to our schedule. Although in reality these blocks are not empty at all - this is time to work on big goals.
