Elbrus is an open fracture. 30 hours of waiting for help. Amputation of both legs. 30 days in intensive care. Minus 10 kilograms. This is not a script for a superman movie. This is a case from the life of Sergei Alexandrov, which he accepted as a "gift".:)

Smile. She did not leave my face all day after talking with Sergei.

Climbing Elbrus, open fracture, 30 hours of waiting for help, amputation of both legs, 30 days in intensive care. All this not only did not break him, but transformed him.

The readers of Lifehacker are already familiar with Sergei Alexandrov. We talked about the documentary "Be patient if you can" dedicated to him.

In this interview, you will get to know Sergei better, learn about his sporting successes and get your … smile.:)

- Hello, Sergei! Ready for tricky questions?

- Hello, Nastya!

Any questions can be asked. I have no negative feelings. Especially children ask cool: "Uncle, you have no legs?" Adults get scared and children are spontaneous and ask direct questions. I am always interested in answering them.

- I was born and always lived in St. Petersburg. Graduated from the Russian State Pedagogical University named after A. I. Herzen.

The most noteworthy event until 2009 is 10 years at the tourist club. An experimental site was organized at the House of Creativity, the main goal of which is to interest teenagers. Change the position from "I want it well" to "I'm interested in this!" To do this, they go to the forest with the children, where they talk about nature, travel and so on in an interactive form.

For 5 years I have been attending this club as a student, and as much as a teacher. At the same time, I probably received a dozen "formations", because we went to various interesting lectures, watched educational films, etc.

In 2006 I left the club …

- It is hard to say. The club exists to this day - the guys are great, they continue this business. But it takes up 100% of your time.

Then I was already engaged in photography, and in 2006 I finally went into this field. Both in terms of work and in terms of creativity.

Plus, he began to go on serious mountaineering trips, independently collecting groups of 3-4 people.

Present

- We went to Elbrus in preparation for another, more serious, campaign to the Pamir. And literally on a flat slope, I fell and was left without legs.

- All my thoughts were focused on survival. I understood that only a few survive in such a situation. On average, with an open fracture in the cold, you can hold out for 1, 5-2 hours.

I endured 30 hours. There was no time for despair - it was necessary to survive.

- There are many different reasons. The helicopter did not arrive, and the rescuers were very exhausted, as they had worked at Elbrusiade the day before. And here we call: "Guys, you will be on the other side of Elbrus - about 10 hours on foot there and the same amount back." They, of course, were not very happy, but they went out and dragged.

A month in intensive care. The state is on the verge. In those 30 hours, I lost 10 kg.

In the end, I'm alive! But the legs could not be saved. It would be too fantastic.:)

- It sounds strange, I myself still cannot explain why I took this situation so lightly.

But I didn't have depression after the trauma, which, in theory, should have occurred. I felt calm and well. I was happy with simple things.

Drippers in all places are "working moments". Difficulties to go through. And inside it was amazingly good.

And I didn't have to artificially maintain this feeling. It just was. Instead of despair, I had a joyful and light feeling. Where it came from, I don't know. But I can’t call it anything other than a “gift”.

“I don’t know, but this is also a fantastic feeling. When I arrived home, people came to me in stone, and left alive. Rather, I managed to communicate with them as with living people.

After all, they came to a disabled person - not to me. A difficult situation knocks down all human masks. I was open. They saw that I was a living person, and they themselves became that way.

Communication with real people helps me now.

- For example, you are driving a car, you have violated something, a traffic policeman comes up - “Sergeant Petrov. Come with me.

I sometimes point to my feet and say, "Sorry, this will take some time, I'll be right there."

And there is an interesting metamorphosis - in front of me is no longer a traffic policeman, but a living person.

When I really screw something up, I pay a fine with pleasure, and when they stopped to stop it, it is much easier to talk to a living person. He will say: correct here, turn on the headlights, and bon voyage.:)

- Of course.

I read somewhere in VKontakte: “Can't find a job, earn money, study? Well, stay in the ass!.

I am very cruel to myself and others in terms of any leadership qualities, including patience.

Everyone clearly knows: if you do, there will be a result. No? See quote above.

Sport

- Very much. I have a beloved wife and daughter.:)

And also there was a unique opportunity to touch the great sport. Because in healthy sports, if you have not achieved anything before the age of 10, you merge. In a wheelchair, the competition is a little less - I have already managed to taste a serious real sport.

- Yes, it was the America's Cup. The best athletes of the world have gathered. I managed to take 20th place. I think it's cool because I was able to compete with people who have been training for 10-20 years. I have only been in this sport for 3 years.

- I did, but it was a different technique. I have been skiing for many years, that is, this is a heavy backpack on my shoulders and the task is to descend from the mountain as slowly and safely as possible. In alpine skiing, a fundamentally different approach - you need to go down very quickly.

I don't like extreme sports, I don't like speed. Even in the car I always wear my seat belt. Extreme is the part of the sport that I don't like. But I have to overcome my fears, because I don't know any other area of life where there would be so much energy.

- As an athlete, I did everything for this. I am waiting for a decision "from above".

- Definitely good. All disgruntled conversations are just an attempt to undermine the government in order to redistribute it once again. I see no other reason.

The Olympics in your country is the development of sports. And sport is a priori health. It doesn't matter to me how much money was spent on it.

The Olympics are a great stimulus for sport to become fashionable. So that when you run in the morning, they do not point a finger at you, but think: “I didn’t run today, I should run.”

I'm at a crossroads. On the one hand, you need to live on something. But, both photography and sports are areas where you need to plunge with your whole being. Because of sports, I don't have the opportunity to devote myself entirely to photography. I work with old clients, and new ones float away from me. But I still can't get into sports with my head - sponsors are needed.

- Now my trips are financed by the Sports Federation of Disabled People of St. Pererburg. Last year one construction company helped. In addition, they constantly help me right on the spot, for example, I ride for free in the “Golden Valley” and “Puhtolovaya Gora”.

But since I'm not on the national team, I have to pay a lot myself.

Alpine skiing is one of the most expensive sports. Only "Formula-1" is more expensive. A TOP athlete is not one pair of skis, it is a hundred pairs, about 1.5 tons of expensive equipment, which “travels for an athlete around the world for 8-10 months a year. This equipment must be constantly monitored. Therefore, a TOP athlete is also a whole staff of people who prepare the ski, the track, coaches, doctors, etc. In addition, for the training of high-speed disciplines, for safety reasons, entire resorts are closed. This requires dozens of specialists. In short, this is a whole industry that I plunged into only 3 years ago.

While driving alone. Looking for sponsors!:)

A responsibility

- Great slogan. But here everything is simple: someone is looking for an excuse, someone is looking for opportunities. As I said, you work - you get the result. You look for an excuse and say that it is impossible, you get nothing.

One incident struck me. At the Russian Championship, I met with the world champion among veterans. Imagine, I'm standing at the start and doing something that I have never done before in my life. I literally jump over my head - both in terms of overcoming fears, and in terms of emotional and physical strength.

He stands nearby. He sees and perfectly understands what I am experiencing, and says: “Even higher! Even further! . I didn’t understand, where does this energy come from, where does this “cosmos” get its strength?

The next morning, at breakfast, I received an answer. The hotel had a buffet with a lot of all kinds of food. But even on the first day, he said to me "Eat this nasty thing" and pointed to the porridge. It digests quickly, and you need energy. I ate it every morning.

And in the morning after the start, where I jumped above my own head, I came to breakfast. A huge amount of work has been done - everything worked out. I have all sorts of goodies in front of me - why am I a fool to take this muck again? I picked up all sorts of sausages, I sit down at the table and see that he is looking at me and does not understand why I don’t eat oatmeal?..

Everything is made up of little things. To live without excuses means to accumulate energy to achieve your goals every day, every minute.

- Perhaps it is not so. But this is my position in life.

If I’m in a bad mood, then I’m the one to blame. If I have met bad people, it’s my fault. If an "insoluble" situation has arisen on my path in life, then I created it.

I am completely responsible for everything that happens to me. Of course, there are things that are beyond my control. But I am ready to accept the "gifts" of fate. This is also my responsibility.
