The kitchen is the last place seen as a background for a photo, and where you are unlikely to look for items to add flavor to hackneyed plots. I must say, very in vain.
You will be surprised, but ordinary pots, pans, colanders and grills can drastically change the photo and become objects of attention in the frame. Here is a list of common things that you will look at differently after reading this article.
1. Aluminum foil
A very cheap thing that can be found in any kitchen. With the help of foil, you can create an interesting background for shooting. Or you can use it as a reflector to get unusual lighting. Make a few folds or crease the foil for an original texture. You can make a reflector if you attach a sheet of foil to something rigid like a piece of cardboard. This way you can make several reflectors of different sizes for shooting portraits or product photos.
2. Colander
This simple item will come in handy not only when cooking pasta, but also in order to make the light from the flash less harsh. The colander can also be used as an additional object in the photo, partially falling into the frame and attracting the viewer's attention. Try different white balance settings to give a particular hue to metal dishes.
3. Cutlery
Spoons and forks are good to use as parts for still lifes and as separate objects when creating kitchen scenes. Before shooting, it's worth making sure your cutlery is clean and choosing your background carefully. As for the location in the frame, the key point here is experimentation: you can remove the spoons-forks in their natural environment, but it is better to come up with something original and change the angle.
4. Work surfaces
Countertops, wood chopping boards, and even a sink can be great backdrops for your shots. In fact, you can lay out the objects being shot on the surface, making various compositions, and simply point the camera at them, placing it strictly on top.
5. Parchment paper
Heavyweight parchment paper is commonly used in the kitchen for baking, but it is easy to find other uses as well. First of all, paper is an excellent background for culinary (and not only) stories. In addition, thin sheets also allow for soft light, reducing the intensity of natural and artificial light.
6. Food
Take a look in the refrigerator and you will find tons of new photography objects. How to compose compositions from them is already a topic for a separate article. But the fact that you can practice in different techniques of shooting with products and all kinds of their combinations is a fact.
