Why Wanda / Vision is Worth Watching for All Marvel Fans

But fans of comic films should definitely not miss this project, especially since it was filmed clearly for fans. And those who are familiar with the history of Wanda and the rest of the heroes will be surprised at the experimental approach and plunge into the story.

Strange plot and MCU connections

Witch Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and her husband - android Vision (Paul Bettany) - move to a quiet town, buying a house there. The wife is busy with the housework and makes friends with neighbors, and the husband gets a job, showing miracles of productivity. They live with ordinary worries: they invite the boss to visit, participate in an amateur competition. The heroes only have to hide their true nature so as not to embarrass others.

For everyone who is familiar with the MCU, the very beginning of this story seems strange. After all, Vision died during the "War of Infinity", and the entourage of the 1950s does not at all fit into the world where the heroes used to live. But what is really happening can be guessed very quickly. And those who have read the Marvel comics, after a certain moment, will definitely remember "M Day".

Strictly speaking, "Wanda / Vision" does not make a special secret from the subtext. Even the name itself is partly a hint: Vision can be interpreted not only as the name of the hero, but one of the meanings of this word in English “vision”. And perhaps the trailers even revealed too much, and without getting too ahead of ourselves, some of the scenes would have looked more impressive. But still it cannot be said that the series immediately reveals all the secrets.

Even the realization of the unreality of what is happening does not answer the main questions. Where does all this happen? How is this possible? And in the end, what happened at all?

In fact, the first two episodes are sheer deception. Their main plot only entertains the viewer and at the same time makes one feel uncomfortable. Much more important are small references and hints that occasionally flash in the frame. Therefore, you should pay attention to background details, radio voices and even fake ads. And of course, for the finals of the series.

However, you need to understand that the initial series is just a seed, the main action will unfold later. Moreover, they last almost half the number of episodes that will be released further. And there are reasons for that.

Eerie hints from an old sitcom

It is amazing and at the same time joyful that Marvel continues to experiment with the form of presentation. The uniqueness of the series even surpasses the comedy of the third "Thor" by Taika Waititi.

The thing is that Wanda / Vision is styled after classic sitcoms from the 50s and 60s. The screensaver and many of the scenes with the main character are clearly borrowed from "My wife bewitched me" - a series about a witch who married a simple guy. And Paul Bettany's playing style sometimes refers the viewer to The Dick Van Dyck Show. Moreover, the first episodes were filmed in the studio in front of a live audience, as they did with the filming of real sitcoms.

But all this is intended not so much to make the viewer laugh, but to make him worry. After all, when the realization of the real subtext of the plot comes, it becomes almost scary from the malicious replay and the absurdity of situations.

When the heroine Elizabeth Olsen seems to forget that she needs to play a happy housewife, the real Wanda Maximoff breaks into the frame, frightened and lost. And if in an ordinary comedy a couple who have forgotten about an important date only laughs, then here their behavior hints even more: the heroes themselves do not understand what is happening to them.

And for exactly the same purpose, the frame is made in black and white. Against a pale background, any bright element seems to be a wake-up call. And the blood looks just as creepy as it is unnatural.

Judging by the promotional materials, the atmosphere will change a lot further. Probably, with each episode "Wanda / Vision" will refer to sitcoms from other times, gradually darken and more and more associated with the MCU. And perhaps he will give hints for further films.

Therefore, it is too early to talk about the whole project. But Marvel definitely managed to intrigue the viewer and make him speculate. And this is the most important thing for the start of the series.
