1. Do you need to do push-ups to grow your breasts?

The correct answer is no. There are exercises that really increase the girth of the chest due to the growth of the pectoral muscles. Visually, the chest will protrude forward, developed muscles will balance the figure, and the general condition of a trained person is better.

But what you put in your bra cups doesn't grow from exercise. The female breast is a complex organ.

What we see actually consists of the breast, that is, the mammary gland, pectoral muscles (small and large), subcutaneous adipose tissue and connective tissue.

There is nothing we can do about the size and shape of the mammary gland: they are determined by genes.

All that is available without surgery is work on muscles and fat volume, which, unfortunately, cannot be stored only in the chest.

For the same reason, other methods of home breast augmentation do not work either: phytoestrogens, cabbage, poultices and massage.

2. Do implants cause cancer?

Breast augmentation: truth and myths
Breast augmentation: truth and myths

That is unlikely. Silicone implants do not cause cancer. No link has been found between breast augmentation and cancer. But fake breasts can make it difficult to diagnose cancer if you're unlucky enough to get sick. Implants sometimes interfere with a full examination, do not allow you to notice a tumor in the early stages.

In 2011, 400,000 women were frightened by the news: the implants of the French company Poly Implant Prothese were declared unsafe due to the use of industrial silicone. The manufacturer was closed, and many women had implants replaced with others. Although this case was investigated and concluded that there were no long-term problems due to implants, scientists do not guarantee safety. Researchers from the Netherlands analyzed several thousand studies on the effects of breast augmentation surgery. But only a few dozen works met all scientific requirements, so scientists are cautious and do not say that implants are completely safe.

They do not cause cancer, but it is still an operation and a foreign body in the body - there are other problems as well.

The most common complications are associated with the fact that the body does not want to live peacefully with a silicone insert:

  • Double bubble … Literally a double bubble. Appears when the mammary gland and the implant do not form a single unit, the implant looks like a breast on which another breast has been superimposed.
  • Capsular contracture … A dense fibrous membrane forms around the foreign body inside the body. Normally, it is thin, but sometimes it grows, deforms the implant, and provokes pain.
  • Ball in toe … A complication in which the implant and the gland fall unevenly, changing the shape of the breast.

3. Do you need to place implants only above the muscle (or under the muscle)?

This is a difficult question, it is solved with each patient separately.

How and where to install the implant, the doctor decides. The surgeon needs to assess the size of the gland and understand how the implant will look in combination with what is. If the surgeon makes a mistake, the result will be so-so: the contours of the implants can be seen, the chest will hurt.

You can install implants:

  • Under the gland(that is, over the muscle). This is possible if the gland tissue is good, the skin is elastic, and so on. However, it is not entirely clear why the operation is needed, if everything is fine without it.
  • Under the pectoral muscle … This method is considered more reliable. Dmitry Skvortsov, a plastic surgeon at the Correct clinic, told Lifehacker why this is so. In the past, Dmitry is a general surgeon in the emergency department. More than 7 years ago he underwent professional retraining in the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery under the guidance of Professor L. L. Pavlyuchenko.

Anatomically, it is more correct to place implants under the muscle. This provides a better fixation and eliminates complications.

4. Are implants replaced every five years?

There is no such recommendation. Implants may require replacement: they also have a shelf life, which depends on their composition and quality. Whether to change them or not depends on which one is installed for you and how it looks.

No one can name the exact date when to run for a new operation.

Implants are changed individually and according to indications. For example, I wanted a larger size, complications appeared. The negative effects can appear within 10 years. But if the implant is not damaged, there is no point in changing it.

5. Do implants explode and spread?

Very rarely. There were indeed cases when the implants were damaged and their contents got into the body. The already mentioned French manufacturing company closed because its products behaved incorrectly.

Both silicone and saline implants can theoretically deteriorate and break. Salt ones serve less and break more often, but at the same time after such a nuisance there are fewer complications.

It all depends on the implants and the correct work of the surgeon, that is, the question is about quality.

Patients come to correct complications, but the problem is not always the lack of professionalism of the surgeon. Often women do not follow the doctor's instructions, risk their health, overestimate the effect of the operation and, being disappointed, look for another specialist.

6. Can I breastfeed after surgery?

It depends on what kind of implants you have and how they are installed.

If you have silicone implants inserted through an incision under your breast or under your armpit, you can feed. And if the incision was around the areola - it is impossible, because in this case, during the operation, the breast tissue and ducts are damaged.

Replacement of the implant after pregnancy may be required depending on the degree of breast change. Displacement is extremely rare if the implant has been installed correctly. New techniques make it possible to firmly fix implants.

7. After the operation, can the pectoral muscles be pumped?

Physical activity can be given, but dosed and carefully, especially if the implant is installed under the muscle.

There is a possibility that when the muscle is strained, the shell with the implant can disperse. Therefore, physical activity should be moderate, both when placing the implant under the muscle, and when installing over it. In any case, after mammoplasty, you can go in for sports no earlier than after 1, 5 months and with light exercise. Soreness is the primary symptom that the exercise should be completed.

8. Do you have terrible scars after breast augmentation surgery?

There will be traces from the operation. You can estimate how noticeable they will be. If the skin is good and heals quickly, then the traces of the operation will be small. If scars remain even after scratches, the incisions will be more noticeable. The question is where exactly the scar will be located.

  • Under the bust … This is the most convenient way to perform the operation, and the scar is hidden by a fold.
  • Around the areola … An inconspicuous scar, but such an operation is expected to damage the mammary gland and its ducts.
  • In the armpit … Imperceptibly, but inconvenient for the surgeon, which means that the risk of complications is higher.

The surgeon decides how to perform the operation. It depends on many factors, including the anatomical features of the patient.

9. Does the chest change sensitivity?

This is quite possible. Sensitivity will be different immediately after surgery and for several weeks. This is due to surgery.

Sometimes everything comes back to normal when rehabilitation ends. And sometimes not. Moreover, the breast may become more sensitive or lose some sensations.

10. Are good operations done only for big money and only abroad?

Breast augmentation: questions and answers
Breast augmentation: questions and answers

Not true. You can run into low-quality work anywhere in the world. And Russian surgeons work no worse than foreign ones.

You don't need millions for a new breast. For the sake of interest, try to find prices for plastic surgery in the regions, and not in clinics, which appear on the first page of Google search results. Making a breast is a matter of hundreds of thousands. Not cheap, but possible.

11. When I get my breasts done, will my life change?

After the operation, you will have to go through several weeks of rehabilitation, experience disappointment (because the breast does not look perfect right away, it takes time for it to recover), wear compression underwear.

The problems of housing and communal services will not disappear from the new breast. And the habit of looking for flaws in oneself will not go anywhere either.

Only one thing will change in your life: you will have new breasts. Everything else - personal life, new job, self-confidence - will not come from this. This is not how it works. And sometimes it is better to give up a new breast so that, in addition to old problems, you do not earn new ones.

Cases when it is necessary to dissuade clients from the need for an operation are very frequent. A woman may not understand the characteristics of her body, not be aware of the risk of consequences, not present an aesthetic result. For example, she wants a fifth size, having the original first, but according to her anatomical data, this implant size cannot be placed under the muscle.

12. Only notorious girls increase their breasts, but I just need to love myself?

This is not the whole truth. Complexes are not the only reason for breast augmentation. Surgeries are needed after a mastectomy (when for medical reasons it was necessary to remove the breast), after injuries or after losing shape due to childbirth and feeding.

We in no way deny the benefits of body positive. Indeed, you do not need to love yourself for your breasts. But this is not a reason not to fix what you don't like. We do not urge anyone to run to the clinic, but we do not urge anyone to refuse either.

After all, makeup and hair are also ways to improve yourself. The difference in scale is strong, and the pros and cons should be weighed properly before surgery.
