Is it possible to give bones to dogs, the better to feed pets when it's time to show them to the veterinarian - find out the answers to the most frequent questions of novice dog breeders.
How to feed your dog?
The first rule is not to skimp on food. Believe me, veterinarian services and pet medications will cost more than quality food. A simple rule will help you not to make a mistake with food: it should not be cheap and should not be sold in supermarkets. Do not be lazy to get to the pet store, there is much more choice of good food of the middle price category.
But you can also feed your dog natural food. The main thing is to monitor the balance of the diet and do not forget to give your pet vitamins. There are many options for a healthy, natural menu, such as combining buckwheat, rice, chicken, or beef offal. It is not recommended to give salty foods.
A strict feeding schedule is one of the keys to healthy digestion.
Delicious for dogs is not flour and sweet. If you want to pamper your pet, buy him a special treat from the pet store.
Fresh filtered water should always be readily available.
Important! Contrary to the prevailing stereotype, you should not let your dog gnaw bones. They destroy enamel, the pet can grind off or even break a tooth about them. In addition, splinters of bone clog the gastrointestinal tract quite a lot. Want to give your dog something to chew on? Pet stores have a great alternative - bone from the veins.
When should you see your veterinarian?
Couldn't think of an even better way to save you and your dog from unnecessary problems than spaying. You will not need to think that the pet will run away, attracted by the smell of heat, or, conversely, will bring sudden offspring.
A veterinarian examination every six months will help identify and prevent possible illnesses. It is better to play it safe and see the problem at the very beginning than to rake the consequences of a neglected disease.
Vaccinations are as inevitable as taxes. Vaccinations against rabies and other viral diseases are given once a year.
If you notice changes in the behavior or appearance of the dog - lethargy, refusal to eat, areas of baldness, lumps under the skin - contact your veterinarian. Better to go for a walk in vain than to miss the onset of the disease.
What about walking?
Winter is good because the chance of bringing a tick home is minimized. But in the summer, before a walk, it is worth treating the dog with an insect spray so as not to pick up the parasite.
But it's better to play it safe anyway and check the pet's coat after a walk. Especially if you were walking in the woods. By the way, learning how to pull out a tick is easy. Ask your veterinarian to show you how to do this, and you will be able to rid your pet of the insect yourself if necessary.
During a walk, the dog can be combed out - and there is less cleaning at home, and there is a chance to find a tick in time.
Even if the summer is very hot, do not let your dog swim in an unfamiliar body of water. You never know who else can swim there, and then you will have to treat infections.
It is forbidden for a dog to pick up something on the street and even more so to eat it. This is an axiom.
A sedentary lifestyle is a path to disease. A healthy lifestyle begins on the street. Walk with your pet as often as possible, let him get a little tired after the walk, but return home happy. And such a physical activity will be useful for a modern city dweller.
Does the dog need to be washed?
A dog is not a cat, and you still have to wash it. Especially if the dog is long-haired.
Choose your pet shampoo carefully. If you do not want the consequences in the form of allergies and irritation, it should be high-quality cosmetics, and not a dubious sample of the chemical industry for 35 rubles.
Pay special attention to the ears. Ear mites and otitis media will cause a lot of unpleasant moments for you and your pet, so if you notice that your dog's ears are bothering you, go straight to the clinic.
Is it necessary to train too?
The general course of training will not be superfluous for a medium or large breed dog. If it is not possible to give the animal to the dog handler, independently teach it the basic commands: “to me”, “place”, “no”, “walk”. This will make it easier for you to control your pet in public places.
Shouting at the dog and even more so beating it is not worth it. It is unlikely that she will understand the reason for your aggression, that is, the educational effect will be dubious, but the dog will begin to be afraid of you. If you want to learn how to train a dog, go with your pet OKD.
What should not be done in any case?
- Let the dog run alone. Self-walking is the fastest way to lose an animal. An exception is walking in your fenced area.
- Play with the dog with a small ball: it can swallow it and suffocate.
- Leave your dog at home with a collar. Active animals can catch them on a protruding object and strangle themselves.
- Add plenty of feed. It swells in the stomach, and the dog may vomit.
But what you must do is love your pets and spend as much free time with them as possible. Their life is much shorter than ours, and we are a big part of this life.
