5 reasons to work out at home instead of in the gym
5 reasons to work out at home instead of in the gym

There is an opinion that it is possible to improve physical fitness only in a simulator. And so signing up for the gym is a significant step, and home workouts are pampering that will end soon. At the same time, annual passes are gathering dust in wallets, and enthusiasm is quickly replaced by disappointment and guilt.

If you do not strive to participate in competitions, and decided to do sports for the sake of health, well-being and a fit figure, an ordinary apartment is no worse for training than a gym. And in some cases it's even better - and here's why.

1. You will be able to fully concentrate on your workout

There are many distractions in the gym that make it difficult to concentrate on technique and body sensations.

When you take up the barbell, continuing to laugh at the joke you just heard, all concentration goes to hell. And conversations between sets often take so long that the muscles have time to cool down. This is especially true for beginners who are not yet accustomed to the hall and are constantly distracted by people scurrying past, music and thoughts about what is happening and how to relate to it.

At home, you don’t look at the interior, don’t pay attention to those at home, unless they reach your arm, you can practice in complete silence and don’t put on headphones to listen to your power song.

In these conditions, it is much easier to focus and find a range of motion in which you can move comfortably and without pain. And also strain your muscles with all your might and finish the approach exactly when the technique begins to deteriorate, and not when the repetition failed and you tore your back.

2. Shyness will not prevent you from exercising

It is about feeling uncomfortable in front of other people, which is familiar to many newcomers. The fear of looking stupid can get in the way of doing a good stretch, working on a technique with no weight or with an empty bar, trying movements that you think have something embarrassing.

For example, in my presence, one girl refused to perform hyperextension on GHD, because she believed that everyone would look at her ass.

This problem disappears completely if you study at home. Nothing will stop you from remembering and repeating your school workout from physical education, jumping in your shorts and your favorite stretched T-shirt, trying any exercises and making challenges for yourself.

You can shift the focus from how you look to how you feel as you perform, and find the workouts that are most comfortable and effective.

3. You will not compare yourself to others

Studying with people around you, it is difficult to abandon comparative analysis. It starts automatically and runs without your participation. It is limited by appearance and does not include genetic characteristics, age, sports experience and other important factors. Therefore, it often ends with disappointing conclusions.

Your own achievements may seem insignificant against the background of what you see around, and this spoils the mood and undermines motivation.

Looking at others can force you to work with a weight that you are obviously not ready for, pump up the volume of training in pursuit of comrades, while the body needs rest. Or go on a strict diet to get the same cubes faster as others.

At home, it's much easier to set realistic goals and listen to how you feel. Without comparisons, you are more likely to sensibly assess your progress in terms of the growing indicators and changes that you observe in the mirror, enjoy personal achievements and not raise the bar.

4. It will be easier to start if you don't feel like it

There is an opinion that it is difficult to force yourself to exercise at home, but in a fitness center you will have to do it anyway. It seems logical, but there is one problem: you still have to get to the simulator.

More than once I missed classes simply because, due to psychological fatigue, even in my thoughts I did not master the 15 minutes of the road from the bus stop to the hall. After all, now you have to go, and then change clothes …

At the same time, if you manage to overcome such thoughts, fatigue disappears after the first approach. You get involved in the process, feel pleasure from the movement and forget about all the problems.

This makes it easier to start a home workout. All you have to do is get off the couch and promise yourself to do one lap of the interval or swing the press 3 to 20.

Chances are, you go beyond this, complete the entire planned workout and be proud of yourself.

5. You will not fall victim to a bad coach

It is wonderful to train under the guidance of a good specialist. He will supply you with technique, calculate the volume of training, advise you on nutrition, and just cheer you up in moments of weakness.

The problem is that gyms often save on specialists, hiring students or people who pumped up their muscles and took two-week courses. This does not mean that there cannot be good coaches among them, but at the same time there is always a risk of running into a bad one and becoming a victim of illiteracy or ambition.

You can come to the gym to exercise for your health, and then suddenly find yourself chasing an ideal figure that you did not even think about. Fight with your body for athletic performance you don't need and pump up a sore lower back that didn't bother you at all until you started exercising.

If you study at home, then you do not risk falling under the influence of another person and forgetting about what you really want.

Yes, you have to research the topic, buy some equipment, experiment with exercises and workout regimes, but as a result, you can achieve your goal - whether it's feeling well, a comfortable weight, or 25 pull-ups per set.
